The story of the song black Sabbath is, ozzy gave geezer butler (the bassist) an old, 15th century book that was written in Latin and had all kinds of drawings of Satan in it. That night, geezer had a bad nightmare that he was visited by a solid black figure staring at him. It scared him so bad that they wrote that song.

Fun fact. Black Sabbath was originally not going to be a metal band. On his last day at work in the metal factory tony had to use a machine he was unfamiliar with and ended up loosing the tips of his fingers. He made his own prosthesis and tuned down to make playing less painful. Hence the sound of metal music was caused in some way by literal metal.

According to at least Tony and Ozzy, Black Sabbath is not metal. They weren't looking to create a new type of music, and they still believe it's a rock and roll band, and Ozzy considers his solo work to be rock and roll as well.

I'm not saying I disagree, but I find it funny that the band considered the heavy metal pioneer doesn't consider themselves metal. I love Black Sabbath. They are my favorite band and I own a black Epiphone SG because of Tony Iommi and when I'm able to, I'm going to upgrade to the actual Gibson SG. This is the band that inspired me to pick up the guitar in the first place.

I’m surprised how paranoid became so popular. The manager of Black Sabbath stated that an album ‘war pigs’ would not sell good. This is why it’s the first song in the album, so a few days later Tony Iommi picked a cool tune to play and Osbourne went with it and started Rambling random sentences. This is why you don’t see many comparisons within the lyrics. The song was literally made in 30 minutes of playing time. The album would now be able to be called paranoid because the bands manager wanted a song in the album named the same as the album.
@MaggaraMarine7 жыл бұрын
_"Osbourne went with it and started Rambling random sentences"_ Yes, that's how the melody was written (he sang random words to come up with the melody, a bit similarly as "Yesterday" by The Beatles was written). But those are not the lyrics that you hear on the album version - they kept the melody and Geezer wrote the actual lyrics you hear on the album.
@plvsvltra98927 жыл бұрын
Cringe Crewism 101 but the album cover was related to war pigs so it was a bit wrong. And well Sabbath is famous for being fast in their recordings the first album (black Sabbath) was recorded in 8 hours later on after warpigs they started putting more time with proper studio for recording.
@cringecrew101asmr87 жыл бұрын
Javier Martin I remember hearing from the show he does with his son, Ozzy and jacks world detour, on one of the episodes, Ozzy states that when your in the fast lane and popular to just make a lot of music. This is why they recorded albums at the time in a fast manner was because of Ozzy’s philosophy to recording music.

8:04 - Here's where you have to take the year into context. This was their very first song, on their very first album, and it was released in 1970. The "creepy stuff" in the beginning? When have you ever heard a song before this point that had any "atmosphere" like that?... This song, (nor any song on any of Sabbath's albums, especially the first one) was in any way 'commercial', which, keep in mind, most music up to this point, and past this point was. Sabbath is always credited as the first "metal" band, but that entire first album had some heavy atmosphere, something that wasn't really featured on albums or songs up until then.

Just when i was binge watching your reaction videos, i get gifted with the one for my favorite band!!! Love the material on this channel. As for the song "Black Sabbath", the song serves way more for historical value - if you went to any of the shows on their last tour they put this song first, and it sets the tone very well. It's kind of the de facto beginning of heavy metal, and that's why I like it. it's not necessarily the best song in their catalogue, or even the best one on their first album, but it serves as a testament to the genre itself.

It's cool that you're alright with Black sabbath, it's actually the very first band I listened to and thought: "Being in a band would be so cool" and now about 3 Years later I play in 2 Rock bands with some mates and it's just pure fun! I'd love to see Sydney react to DT, I'm a fan myself, though Black Sabbath is one of the bands which had a big impact on my taste and guitar playing. Oh and as I discovered them 4 years ago together with Motörhead I thought: TURN UP THE BASS. Though it's simple, it's effective... and you actually hear it.

First of all, I love your channel dude, I subscribed a few minutes before. As an 51 year old metalhead I like to see that these youngsters discover metal listening to the same band as I did in the beginning of the seventies. That's something you have to give the FineBros credits for I got my first albums (deep purple, black sabbath, slade, etc) when I was six from a cousin who bought records by the tons and he didn't like any of them, referred to it as noise... Boy was I glad he had such a bad taste for music...

One of the things I probably like most about Mike is he's not overly enamored with previous decades of music. I think he would agree with the sentiment that there was some good music in every decade, even the ots and teens, though the good stuff rarely sees radio play. P.S.: Even good bands/artists put their poppiest garbage into singles where other songs in their albums are actually great.

I knew you would upload a reaction video when I got the notification from the FBE channel, but I didn't expect it so quickly (I'm not complaining, though). Seriously, man, it was Sunday and you deserve a break. Loved your commentary as always, but you sound a bit under the weather. As to the kids' reactions, I'm kind of shocked at how knowledgeable they are about music from the past. I mean, when I was 10 the only bands from the past I knew about were The Beatles and Queen. One more thing: Jenna (the girl who talks at 15:22) will probably grow out of pop when she's older, just the fact that she digs rock songs albeit dreaming of being a "pop idol" is a beacon of hope.

The reason the self titled song is significant is for many reasons, it made overwhelming use of "the devils chord". and they made the first truly evil sounding rock n roll song. Listen to it again, but imagine yourself existing in the year 1969. This shit would have potentially bothered you. They made that the first song on their first major release for a reason. if you were willing to hear evil notes for 8 minutes, then you've truly earned the rest of record. You cant compare that song to anything else that came previously. Its the first of its kind and it was a risky and brave thing to try in that point of time.

"those are the essentials, Sydney" Yep, metal music in general has many subgenres, many of which are totally a different thing than their distant brothers, but what most of them have in common : they touch you at the very core, they inspire you, they are loud, often upbeat and aggressive.

Become The Knight I listened to War Pigs and I heard some of the first recorded blast beats in heavy metal history. Bill Ward is a metal drumming legend for a reason. I love your input on the music because of your honesty. By the way your hair is very Viking looking. Keep making these awesome videos. I have played drums for 9 years now so I know my metal drumming really well. Playing heavy metal in general is a very physical and mental genre.

Mike, I totally agree with you on Black Sabbath. Some songs were great, some were not so great, but their influence can't be denied. Gotta respect that. There's a lot of artists that I kinda feel the same way about. There's really not much from before 1980 that I enjoy listening to, but the legends are legends for a reason.
