I don't think Kurt was a genius, and Nirvana is probably my least favorite band of their era. However, I think music is completely subjective and I don't think anyone should feel like they have to agree with you that he's not a genius. It they believe he was a genius, then he's a genius to them. You seem to be riding a weird line between saying people can feel how they want about it, but with conditions.

As a Trombonist I have an eclectic taste in music. I like jazz and classical in particular from the Renaissance upwards. I have taken car journeys where I specifically turn off the radio. I do have moments of silence where I hear a clock ticking and tinnitus from years of trumpets behind me in a big band. I would find it difficult to tune out music as I have to practice regularly. Not only that I can easily hear music in my mind. Either things I've listened to, performed, produced arranged and composed. I don't know how I could completely switch off from music entirely. I can do it for several hours but not entirely.

Nirvana is the most over rated band ever. In the 90s I was in my teens in High School and Jr, High when Grunge happened like 93 to 96 I was 13 to 16. I didn't really get the Nirvana Hype then, and I don't get it now. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Alice in Chains, Offspring, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, were all the same to me. They all sounded very similar, and not unique.

I will start by saying most of these takes were independently good. I feel his take on the two 'newer' songs worked well, and its probably personal practice which version is more interesting. For the Unforgiven, this version was fine but less interesting (to me) than Lars. As for One, this version really didn't do it for me. While I feel this is the one where it is impossible to go past confirmation bias, but I feel like the version from this video wouldn't have gone down as an all time classic. But again, 'One' is the reason my son is learning the drums, so bias exists.

Tool is a phenomenal band with phenomenal music/musicians... There are two kinds of Tool fans, those whol just love/like the music and then you have the actual "tools", those who are absolutely OBSESSED with the band and cannot handle any criticism toward the band. Everyone here's praising the mix, but it's actually not that good. It's far from true to the original. I disagree with so many mix decisions you made, and as one with almost 30 years of experience with recording it's pretty easy to tell where it went wrong. You start by boosting the low end of the drums way too much, which result in another 2-3 plugins to compensate alone on the drums. Did you ever think that maybe adding another EQ was not the right move? The video is about the bass, but you end up making it sound terrible compared to the original. I agree that the missing bass is a problem, but the way you "solve it" is just really bad.

Amen Mike. As a musician I can't see what others do in pop music now. The vast majority of it is overproduced and auto tuned to death. Even the lyrics in Rap music lack originality and creativity. On the auto tune point, what really annoys me is there are probably some great singers out who can sing in tune but the music industry is insists on everything being dead on.
