I run down Loudwire's Top 15 guitar solos of all time. Some great shredders on here and I do love metal. But this list could be better.

that solo sucks just because Mike made a bunch of absurd statements about Page being off tempo... well, of course he's off, he chooses to be off. And it's not perfect and he made mistakes... because perfection kills music. It's much better some fails than playing note for note a recording. I don't pay a ticket to a gig just to listen the same crap than in the record. And Page made many mistakes, because he was always going for different ideas, many of them probably out of his abilities. So, he was sloppy, yes; thank to the gods...

Every time I watch Eruption (the live version), my mouth still drops. He combined so many different styles in that performance. One of them was influenced by his father because he was a musician in the Netherlands. I have to admit that I had no clue that Eddie wasn't the first to do that tapping technique. In an episode of Ken Burns's docuseries "Country Music," they talked about how that technique was originally done by old country pickers. Eddie mentioned something in an interview that he saw what these guys were doing and wanted to capitalize on it and introduce it to a rock audience (not sure if he said that word-for-word), but that's what I read.

It's because when you talk about "Top 10 X of all time" in ANY regard, two factors that aid to the content's position are: 1. Nostalgia - How you felt when you first heard it 2. Staying power - How you feel now compared to then, i.e. does the content stand the test of time. That means that newer content doesn't get the same kind of air-time or consideration when talking about these kinds of lists. Like if you talk about Top 10 Games of all-time, the majority of votes will come from games released earlier than 2017, guaranteed. And it's because of the two reasons I mentioned above. It's the same with music.

Honestly don’t think there’s a quantifiable mean to properly rank solos as best? There’s a certain subjectivity there. Do we go with purely complex hard solos, influence, popularity? My favorite Periphery solo is Absolomb and Dream Theater is Best Of Times, but even than I can’t really see anyone putting those songs on any list. Also I’ve only learned one Iron Maiden song from beginning to end, and it was Aces High. The solo technically influenced me a whole lot as it’s the only whole solo by Maiden I’ve learnedly. Though I think their best would be Wasted Years personally. Also Burn by Deep Purple has a incredible solo, honestly one of my favorites. Tornado of Souls is a great solo, Marty Friedman is a great guitarist I think should be recognized. Maybe on a top ten metal solos list, Megadeth deserves a spot just because they’re very popular for metal and influential. Also to be fair the top five is pretty much perfect. Stairway to Heaven, Comfortably Numb, Eruption are all very obvious influential and memorable solos. Though not even on my personal top ten favorites. I love really melodic, emotional solos with the occasional shred included. One reason Petrucci is who I consider the best guitarist ever because how well he balances the two. Honestly I would include the guitar solo of Windowpane on my personal favorites.
@janugur2241

Windowpane, a unique pick. I think Opeth's best is the ending solo of Funeral Protrait. Sounds very Baroque and dark.

This. Honestly though I'm sick of people judging solos or songs only by how influencial they were in the past while ignoring how skilled and creative some younger guitarrists are. I find it disrespectful to both younger and older guitarrists. Sure the classics deserve to be respected for the revolution they brought to music, but so does their successors for keeping the musical genres alive and even creating new genres all together. Some guitarrists barely get the recognition they deserve. Kai Hansen was extremely influencial himself many guitarrists take him as an inspiration instead of slash, Vai or the other big names. Do you see him put on any lists? When he is added it's usually by the 100th position or so. What about Victor Smolski? Ex-guitarrist for the band Rage, underrated as hell.

Aces High video... when it came out became a party favorite in the 80s and put Maiden on the map for many young metal fans. Remember what the options were in "mainstream" metal at the time and it is easy to understand why this song is so loved. I hate Enter Sandman but when it comes on in a bar after a handful of pop songs, it becomes the best sing-along of all time. Plus, the lyrics - dude - just classic metal. "Live to Fly, Fly to Live... SRVs Little Wing is one of my favorite songs (not just solos) of all time, it’s what made me start playing guitar in the first place. And I think having a healthy balance of super technical songs (like something Yngwie, Eddie, JP, Satch, Vai etc.) in tandem with solos that are slower and more “soulful” (though I think that’s somewhat subjective) from guys like SRV, Gilmour, Knopfler, B.B. King, Clapton, Page, or Hendrix is definitely the best way to go about forming this list, hence why I definitely think your’s was better than loudwires.
