Excellent interview. Good bless the wonderful Irish Catholic people. May we all behave more and more like the good Irish Catholics. The world will be a better place

The Irish factor is hugely underestimated in the Catholic world. Thank God for preserving traditional families.

Fr.John, This interview just popped up on my iPad. I remember you boys all up at Boars Hill, Oxford, when I lived there for a year helping with the cooking! I am an OCDS, now since 1976….great to hear your story. I will be 90 this coming May! I caught up with Fr.John Williamson in a phone chat a couple of weeks ago. Pray for me. I am very disabled now with spinal problems and cancer, but from the neck upwards fine! +

im attending a carmelite run parish for RCIA. the Carmelites are great because they are energetic and involved with day to day life, being that they're not monastic, but they're also very committed to holiness and discipline.

That is wonderful, so glad you are able to interact with them. And congrats on being in RCIA! You are in my prayers.

wow, great and fascinating interview of Father McGowan; I grew up in Australia w/Irish-Catholic heritage, and our parish priest was from Ireland * PS: the first Catholic priests arrived in Australia as convicts in 1800 - Fr's James Harold, James Dixon and Peter O'Neill, who had been convicted for "complicity" in the Irish 1798 Rebellion (a time Presbyterians and Catholics came together)

Thanks for watching! That's very interesting about the first Catholic priests in Australia.

Love this interview with Father McGowan. He explained exactly what is was like growing up in the 50s and 60s. Even though I live in the USA, and a female, the looking and discovering what God was calling me to do resonates well. For me, it was marriage and raising children. However, we all have to get to the point where pleasing God is the reason for doing what we do. To learn, to love, and to serve God is the point of it all. I just wonder if Father's mother saw him become a priest?

My mother and father were both there on the day when I became a priest.

I too used to be an active Member of the Legion of Mary in my youth. Although an Auxiliary member now I do hope to rejoin some day. This interview brings back so many good memories ...of saying the Rosary together along with my family back then, keeping aside extra special clothes for Sunday Mass...:)....Thanks Father John for this amazing testimony. Thanks Megan..hugs :)

Pope John Paul II visited England in 1982. What an honor to be ordained by the Pope. That was funny him telling the story about his friends saying that John's gone all holy. My grandmother was from Inagh, County Clare Ireland. She came to Boston in 1929 at the age of 19 and lived till almost 99 years old. I enjoyed your story Father. Dominus Vobiscum
