It seems the funeral director & licensed staff like enbalmers should be paid more since this is a hazardous job that eventually leads to the big C. Folks, try not taking your frustrations out on the staff who is there to help you as well as dealing with bodies that are sometimes not the easiest to copy close to life depending on the nature of death. These staffers have feelings as well but are trained to not show them but be neutral for families they are serving.

Ive been a funeral director since 2005.... Ive made a lotof personal sacrifices in life because of the job. I only make 52,000 a year as an employee embalmer. I could make more as a free lance embalmer however there is no regular schedule. Embalmings take place as close to the time of death as possible. Work hours usually involve getting in early morning... Setting up.. Maybe a funeral or two and possible visitation hours till 8pm. But nobody leaves at 8pm plus lots of clean up and if families drag a bunch of food to the funeral home and let kids destroy it... By 9 pm you might get to go home only to get called back in for a death at home of somebody of 3 hundred pounds.. Then your embalming at midnight or 3 am. Just to get up early and back in the office to meet afamily who demands you come in on sunday even tho you were hoping to meet them monday instead. It's taken years off my life. But I still get satisfaction by what I do and sanctity of it.

In MS my best friend wanted to be one. I thought it was weird. Now I'm grown and that peace and quiet sounds tempting. I loved chemistry in college and thought about becoming an esthetician -which then brought me to morgue beauticians. Maybe in a few years. I wish you guys well on your journey!

Rip off artists. The industry is a total and complete scam with all kinds of bullshit charges. Honestly I don’t know how these funeral people sleep at night
@nekkittychan42364 жыл бұрын
They sleep just fine as there doing a job many wouldn't. Someone has to prepare the dead to be laid to rest and help grieving families. Also there's many different choices of burials you can do so theres many different price options. If money is what your upset about do a green burial or at home burial.

There are some honest funeral directors, but far & in between, but most should be tied to a tree & shot w/their own embalming equipment.
