that guy that makes 60K a year at the track picking up thrown away tickets is called a "stuppie" if i spelled that right and then there was the guy that cashed your "signers" tickets that you had to go to the irs window to cash and he got the 1099 and 10% of the ticket he was called a 10 percenter i didn't think these guys still existed now with the low on track attendance but these were the kind of characters at the track that made live racing fun all that is gone now it's always plus ev the get to hear dennis speak there are not many guys like him around thanks good pod

Fort Erie, early 1970's. Puss n Boots, the heavy favorite...jumped the rail and went for a swim in the infield pond😢

when I was first learning horses I would go to suffolk this one summer and fritter away my $$ playing every race, so one time I decided to just look for a really solid play and put all my $$ on that at the time I used to dodge chalk but there was this bridge jumper special in like a 5 horse field that looked unbeatable, so I figured I'd just put everything on him and make some lunch $$ instead of losing so he comes out of the gate last. is last to the stretch -- I'm waiting for him to circle the field but he loses ground and prob isn't halfway thru the stretch when the rest have all finished before he even gets to the line he falls over in the stretch, and all these guys come out with buckets of water to throw on him cuz it was in the 90s, then he pops back up and goes to the barn

Interesting chat - I'm fulltime on horses but in a different country Dennis mentions no secondary metric like CLV to review model against (~45min mark). Have never checked accuracy for US racing, but we tend to heavily rely on betfair SP for UK/Aus racing, as market has 99.9x% accuracy over a very large sample. Obviously +/- edges exist in individual races, but zooming out it balances. Are the relevant markets in the US inaccurate for use as a benchmark to compare against holistically? Or is it because the specific bets being taken each race are the minute +/- for that event so it would be unreliable to track against that sort of metric? Cheers for the great content

Finished watching now, so further thoughts What is the accuracy of US parimutuel market closing lines over a large sample? I imagined with essential "wisdom of the crowd" philosophy it would be pretty close to accurate (-takeout). So my above comment, the bets would have to be beating the market each event. Would be interesting if it's actually inefficiencies in the parimutuels that are being taken advantage of

I like to bet claiming races only! I like to bet a horse off the claim 1st start. The horse needs to have won or in the money. Also a plus if the new trainer is a winning trainer and has a top jockey! This has become a high winning percentage angle for me The barn is shooting for quick dividends off their purchase! For newsmatter and entertainment purposes only! I also like to bet it Win- Place- Show🏇
