From what I heard here and based off my knowledge of the Spider-Man universe you weren't that far off. All you really missed was the free costume and chocolate addiction (as far as I know the chocolate addiction is only in the Venom movie universe but I think it funny.)

Symbiotes are interesting organisms. Usually a creature hitching a ride off someone else isn't a good thing for the host. Symbiotic relationships are mutually beneficial however. Some of them can get really crazy. There's a type that replaces the tongues of fish!
