When I spoke about caste , one dude said it is corrupted by the invaders. Ancient India has Varna system,even though I told him Varna and caste are same he disagrees and says Varna is putting the right person in the right place.

I am glad that what Vimoh got at last, the books by Yuval Noah Harari, especially Sapiens, that was the very first book that I read at the beginning of my journey (thanks to a random Instagram comment of a random Instagram reel) So I think I am alot luckier than Vimoh in this regard, I had a clear vision from the beginning phase of my journey (I have yet to read books like The God delusion, Atheist Manifesto etc so I still have a long way to cover)

I was just having a discussion about karma with a colleague the other day. Expanding on your argument of poor people being judged, most of these people remain poor their whole lives and never have any chances to "gather" good karma because their time and resources are spent on survival. So, they're stuck in an infinite loop of being born in poor conditions, if karma is to be believed and the "almighty" doesn't do anything here. Is their eternal suffering justified? None of my colleagues could answer.
@rationable
@rationable Жыл бұрын
That's a very good point indeed. Karma is a deeply flawed idea.

@Aditya Sood "I was just having a discussion [...] None of my colleagues could answer." ============================================== I am (pleasantly) surprised that none of those colleagues resorted to any mental gymnastics in order to justify karma. When I had a very similar discussion, one of my friends claimed that in the case of such persons, the "standards" for what deeds constitute good karma would be lowered in order to enable those persons to start accumulating good karma. I asked her whether there is any "scripture" in Hinduism (i.e. in so-called Sanatana Dharma) regarding this. She said that she would get back to me about it. Since then I have reminded her 4 or 5 times in the last 2 years... and she is still "getting back to me about it".
@aditya.sood077
@aditya.sood077 Жыл бұрын
@@ex.hindu.now.atheist They didn't resort to mental gymnastics because majority believers haven't even read their own scripture. They are just propagating the faith system based on verbal transmission of the "important bits" from their elders. If you show them the text references, then they will start with the mental gymnastics. LOL
@ex.hindu.now.atheist
@ex.hindu.now.atheist Жыл бұрын
@@aditya.sood077 "They didn't resort to [...] with the mental gymnastics. LOL" =============================== Perhaps you are correct. However, I think that they would do mental gymnastics if they "feel" attached to their religious (i.e. so-called dharmic) beliefs EVEN if they have NOT read (at least a few of) the 'scriptures'-i.e., emotional attachment to their religion would lead to mental gymnastics regardless of whether they have read the scriptures or not. I think that a *KEY POINT* is that we can very safely presume that the VAST MAJORITY of Hindus (i.e. so-called Tan-Tanaatana Dharmists) have *not read* any of the "scriptures" of the religion, dharma, etc. etc. by which they swear-and *neither have most of the elders from whom they have heard these stories...* and *nor have the elders from whom those elders have heard these stories...* *and so on and on.* 😂

I have an perspective on why people believe in astrology/numerology/tarot etc from my personal experience - it is not just because everyone believes in it so I also do, it has to do with something deeper - loss of control and fear of future. We are all anxious and scared of our unknown future so your astrology and zodiac try to give some sort of answer to that anxiety. You know in the back of your mind the predictions are just too vague and make no sense but you find solace or hope in the answer. I speak from personal experience because I find myself reading zodiac predictions on newspaper and internet, trying to predict my future etc. and so far it has been a waste of time.
@rationable

I totally agree with you. I too feel it’s a longing to be able to see into the unknown or control the chaos that is life. I feel it’s the same reason why people’s belief in the supernatural or religions is reinforced.

@Meghan Nagvekar "18:55 good point atheist should not [...] with clear view." =========================================================== Not all religious people are completely stupid. The religious persons who are rational in the non-religious aspects of their lives become non-rational with regard to their religious beliefs because their religious beliefs tend to be a deeply ingrained aspect of their beliefs and opinions about their identity. I think that is why they become very emotional (and non-rational) with regard to their religious beliefs.

I would argue that no theist is at all stupid. Religious beliefs are primarily a result of childhood indoctrination. Even if a person changes religions, the need for having a god to believe in persists from the same indoctrination. Almost anyone who wasn’t indoctrinated as a child would develop religious beliefs in adulthood. Religious beliefs have absolutely nothing to do with how intelligent a person is.
