I really enjoyed the back and forth conversation, where you went deeper into different subjects (techniques, happiness etc). It felt more down to earth and video segments didn't feel rushed or time constrained.

Totally agree, it humanizes these “climbing god” and brings it to a relatable level. Now Mitbo just needs to drag one of us into these clips and he will have complete stakeholder participation.

I'm 17 y/o. I started hang boarding after 6 months of climbing, always being careful to warm up completely, hang properly, etc. I think it actually made me much less likely to get injured. I had much less pain in my fingers, and never felt like I was on the edge of injury.
@CamMackay962 жыл бұрын
I think so long as you're being careful and paying attention to how your body responds, age doesn't matter so long as you've gone through the majority of puberty so are nearly fully grown. Like if you'd started at 14 when your hands were much less developed you probably could've done some damage but being 17 you could manage it.
@blarfroer80662 жыл бұрын
Well, everyone is different. That's one big thing to keep in mind. Also, static loads are usually safer than dynamic loads. I wouldn't advice you to use the small campus rungs yet.
@bumbipungen2 жыл бұрын
Yes hangboarding is good from start. the reason people injure themselves is because of overtraining which might be easier with hangboarding.. But hanging on an edge controlled is obv less risk of injury then actually climbing. Just do it smart.. And if you are new to climbing then climbing is better cause you get gains in technic as well... But if you are new and cant climb often due to whatever (logistics?) then getting a hangboard from day one isnt a bad thing.
@KindaAmazing6672 жыл бұрын
At 13:00, I totally agree, Anton. Happiness is the high you kinda chase. You can't stay happy. You can be content and grateful for your circumstances, but happiness itself is sorta fleeting.
@MrTheHegemon2 жыл бұрын
One thing I wish Magnus would have mentioned with regards to hangboarding: you can hangboard at any experience level. However for beginners it's better to do "no-hangs" where you just pull hard without being off the ground. This will actually help prevent injury in the future as long as you're resting adequately.
@aht85482 жыл бұрын
Yes, I recently started climbing (I never did anything upper body related before) and my gym actually has a sign next to the hangboard, that you shouldn't do it, unless you climbed/did something related for a whole year to prevent any injuries. Because all your muscles, tendons etc aren't used to it and can easily tear. Obviously that "one year" isn't really a fixed time, it depends on how much you are climbing/what you have done before, but it shows, that you really should let your own body time and don't overdo it. Because of that I'm trying to stay in my physical limits on the actual boulders as well: starting on easier holds/don't do boulders where you are coming to little holds with some force and just be aware, that it's normal to not be able to do everything emediatly.
@leepicgamer33202 жыл бұрын
@@aht8548 And your body weight matters a lot too.
@TheSubieFan2 жыл бұрын
Yes I think the distinction is that new climbers don't know where their limit is. This is an issue because your tendons and ligaments don't have pain receptors. Meaning you can injure them really easy. But dead hangs are great for everyone if you can be careful.
@miguelgazquez57172 жыл бұрын
an important point about beginner is also that at the start, just climbing hard things will develop almost as much finger strength than a hangboard, and you will learn technique at the same time, wich is much more important.
@MrTheHegemon2 жыл бұрын
@@miguelgazquez5717 that really depends on your local gym. It seems like a lot of modern gyms basically only have jugs on the beginner end and then tend to only have crimps/smaller holds on "higher-level" climbs.

@Mylada2 жыл бұрын
I started at 23. Now 26 and first 7B climbed. There are many climbers who started in their twenties or thirties who climb 8A or harder. If I remember correctly, one Japanese dude started in his forties and climbs 8B or harder. You just have to work flexibility more.

Anton the way you talk about life and the way you understand the respect and as you said gratefulness for life and that being grateful doesn’t always mean you are happy one hundred percent of the time shows character letting us know everything’s not perfect just because you aren’t in a terrible mood and showing your emotions on your sleeve. I think a podcast with you and Magnus would be a great idea as you have amazing chemistry and your fields of expertise cross over having it make sense in my opinion. You both have a way of telling stuff the way it is but you also understand when not to go to far which is awesome to see for me.

Its true regarding youth climbers. The most common youth climbing injury is an epiphyseal fracture to the finger, also known as a growth plate injury to the finger. These injuries most often occur around puberty. Unlike adults, growth plates are 2-5x weaker than the surrounding connective tissue, which leads to the growth plate being the most vulnerable site for injury in a skeletally immature athlete.
