I have been LDS my entire life, did all the things including baptism, seminary, and temple wedding. I’ve never ever considered Catholicism but it practically fell into my lap a few months and I couldn’t stop learning about it! I’m ashamed of what I thought knew about the catholic faith. Starting OCIA next month!

That is so incredible! I felt the same way. I couldn’t believe I had such a skewed view on Catholicism! Welcome home!! We are starting OCIA next month too!

I was Catholic, and was abused by the local priest, which was covered up by the Bishop / Cardinal. So I have no affinity for the organization. And mine, as we've come to know is not an isolated incident, but rather, endemic to the Catholic organization (it's also a problem with other organizations, like the BSA, but Catholicism seems to have a much larger problem than most). My family joined the LDS faith when I was 10. We were taught the shiny PR version of events by the missionaries, whom, I've no doubt, had no clue they were being deceptive. So I grew through adolescence, and adulthood, being Mormon. I served a mission, worked in the temple, held numerous callings, went to BYU, etc. In 2014, after a very long period of study, I realized I had been lied to, so I left Mormonism. That was after 34+ years of membership. I wish you well in your journey, but you've made a grave mistake. I hope you can see it, one day.

I appreciate you opening up about your faith journey. I understand why you might feel that way about the Catholic Church given your experience and I’m sorry that happened. One incident is one too many. And unfortunately that sort of abuse is rampant among all types of people. Catholic, Protestant, and the highest numbers happening in the school system. I’m glad you found your way out of Mormonism. For me I have come to a firm faith that there’s just no denying the fullness of truth in the Catholic Church, I wish you well on your journey too!! I hope you find peace wherever you end up!
