When I was young in the early 80’s, I had just started exploring being gay, what it meant to me, and how it would shape who I became. My parents found out, and gave me 30 minutes to pack and get out. I landed a job at a high end restaurant. I worked my way up, and became lead on the floor. I started meeting all of the celebrities of the time who when they traveled to where I lived, usually came through the door for lunch or dinner. I met Liza, Andy, Divine, and many others. I always hoped I would meet Halston. Unfortunately, he never came in. I admired what he created and was attracted to his simple, elegant taste. It was a fun time, but I eventually met the man of my dreams, 31 years later, we’re still together. I feel lucky, but I look back on that time and smile.

I know that Halston's family might be upset about this series, but I think it's phenomenal and relatable. Halston is an American icon, and this series shows how fantastic and how human he was. Loved his line about being a falconer when trying to pick up Ed in the bar. Also had a giggle when the 'nose' asked him to put out his cigarette 'Oh you can ask darling...but it's not gonna happen'. I though McGregor was fantastic....was gutted when i reached the end. Have watched it again twice.

That's the incredible thing though, Halston *was* so insanely famous and now, unless you have a serious interest in fashion you don't know who he is. That man defined American fashion, without Halston there's no Tommy Hilfiger, there's no Ralph Lauren. And on top of that he was also this huge personality going to clubs, being friends with stars, being the face of his own brand. The closest thing I can think of in recent times is Karl Lagerfeld and even that doesn't quite feel right because more non-fashiony people would have been able to tell you who Halston was in the 70s and 80s than I think people would be able to say about Lagerfeld at the height of his fame.

Even tho I was born v early 60s have to confess id never heard of Halston ! Course I knew of studio 54 , fabulous Liza M etc so was thrilled to see this and see how connected Halston was to,them and that whole,scene. Absolubtly LOVED this series, informative as well as entertaining, moving , great script and really conjures up that era, really glad I now know who Halston was! Even tho I've seen him in things before-I ,never knew what a fantastic actor Ewan M was until I saw this! He knocks it out of the park! An amazing performance. He deserves an emmy at,least! And so well directed too! Best line ' the worst news_ she was wearing Calvin Klien' !! Cracked me up! You know what I mean when you see it. I urge everyone to! Dont know what all the fuss about the smoking is_ when I grew up most people smoked- especially celebs it was the time _ get over it! And watch a great series with great performances! Fabulous and moving.
