a cool thing to note about the new spell rules it it says you can only use one spell slot per turn for casting action/bonus action. BUT that also means that if you get a free cast of something like misty step you can still cast a spell with a spell slot as your action

The interesting thing is that you can cast spells that are free to cast like the Fey Warlock. So you can teleport around the field and then cast other leveled spells at the same time.

I'm a 5.5e truther at this point, I'm all for most of the changes as a forever DM. Players will focus on one nerf to their class and ignore the MYRIAD of buffs that the class will get in return.

I've got a player really upset about changes to monster design that's an indirect nerf to Barbarian Rage and because of that he's completely disregarding the insane buffs the class has gotten

My assumption is that the phrase magic action might not (only) be coined for fighter, but removes the discussion about whether you are able to use another spell. "well do you have a magic action left for any reason, if not, you cant cast his or that" better then specifying that you may not cast multiple leveled spell at once unless you have twinned spells or similar...

I think the idea with the Magic Action is to give more unified language to features that are magic but aren't spells. But on the notion of the "one spell per turn" rule, it's been changed from "bonus action and then only cantrips" to "you can only spend one spell slot"

As a long time 5e DM i never use my DMG and these days i rarly use any monster manual. I find it easier just too give enemys how much hp i think will work for the encounter and abilities

Maybe I missed information about this but.. isn't Magic Action all action (also bonus action) that are based on magic/spell? I understand this as an indicator for things like Dispel Magic or Counterspell etc. to make everything clear. For example - if u cast hellish rebuke it would be Magic Action, but Tiefling racial trait would be its natural ability. but maybe I am wrong :D But still, I think that this additional wording (Magic Action, Emination, etc...) is really cool and makes everything clearer to understand. Big Hopes for this edition. :D

Spencer and I are in lockstep on this. When 3rd edition came out and WotC took over TSR, my friend and I raged about it. We thought WotC was going to change AD&D into Magic: the Tabletop. Even though 3.0 and 3.5 turned out to be way, WAY better than AD&D, we held out for years. Then when 4th edition came out, we held out again. And we were so right. Best call we've ever made I finally checked out 5E and found I really liked it, but now it's changing again. You just can't win sometimes.

I desperately need Jacob to watch some of the videos ppl have put out about core changes to the system because Jacob has so many questions that those videos have answered. Like the backwards compatibility has been greatly covered and ya'll are definitely overcomplicating the conversion in your speculation. The only thing that's maybe a little complicated is the Cleric's Divine Strike/Potent Spellcasting, which has been folded into the core class and you're given instructions to ignore the feature now
