My Mom did her baking and meal preparation all on one day. She made bread, muffins, biscuits, corn bread, cookies, pies and cakes. She loaded the oven with all the things that cooked at the same temperature. It saved money and time to bake all at once rather than heat the oven several times during the week. She reheated any breads on top of whatever she was cooking on the stove top. Wrapping biscuits or cornbread in foil and lay over potatoes/etc that she was cooking. Really easy to do. I miss all the beautiful smells. 😍 She would share her pies and cakes with those less fortunate or unable to bake. Like the single handicapped man who mowed our yard. He never wanted money just pies. 💘 Mom grew up at the end of the depression so saving money and time while looking out for others was always part of her character. I miss her. Thank you for sharing your tips.

You described meeting Constance and Anna perfectly, just how I will always remember it in my mind. I’m 61 and lost the desire to cook for just one but now I have my granddaughter and great granddaughter living with me and I want to do better. I’m even starting an indoor garden. I want to can food as well but it’s still a daunting task that scares me but you make me want to try. Thank you. PS. Your parents are sweet and what you do for them is amazing.

@@BecomingaFarmGirl oh can’t wait to see them and the projects you get accomplished. It will be nice to see them in the kitchen with you too. When I actually first started canning, about seven years ago, I went to the farmers market with my mom. I was so overzealous and bought so much produce. They had smallish Roma tomatoes on special, because they were small. so I got one or two cases of them I don’t remember. It was my mom who got that job, sitting at the sink and peeling all of them after I blanched them. She has not forgiven me yet for that lol there was so many very small tomatoes. Her carpal tunnel is still flared up lol. We still laugh about it. She has not canned anything with me since 😑 lol. Hmph. My week is fine thank you hopefully yours as well. Nothing tastes as good as your own food. I have enough can food to last me for the next year and half! which is great because I just had solar panels put in last month, which I had to borrow money for. The money I’m saving on my electric bill and only eating from my garden and pantry will pay off the loan off in 6 months instead of the 3 years. Keep up the great videos.

I just found you. You are amazing!! I am currently keto/lo-carb, please add some lo-carb options whenever possible. I still cook for others that are not diet restricted so I enjoy all of the recipes and tips. Also I have been a novice gardener, canner ect. and your ideas have inspired me to try different things. Thank you so much.

That baked oatmeal pie looked absolutely fantastic!! I'll definitely be making that soon! Awesome video as always! Maybe one day I'll make it to the HOA conference.

Hello sweet friend! You have to try baked oatmeal! Everyone swears it’s a treat but truly it’s just as easy to make as a bowl of oatmeal. I’ll use fresh berries, apple pie topping, whatever to keep it from getting boring! Hope you love it as much as we do!

Cassandra, this is the first time I have ever left a comment on a KZbin - I enjoyed your video so much so I had to comment. At first I thought it was going to be a spoof on all the other homesteading sites ☺️. You are refreshing and I will certainly be watching you!

Oh I just love you and your Mom and Dad!! Can't wait to see them again! You are so creative in the kitchen, I want to be like that. And I too watch That 1870's Homestead and do so many of the canning recipes that Rachel does. AND one of these years, maybe I can go to the HOA. It's on my bucket list. Would love to meet you and so many others. I follow everyone of them that were at the table with you. Blessings to you and your husband ❤❤

Me too, except I don't watch all of those folks' channels ( yet !).. . We need a midwest one ! I'm in nw WI, and can't get away very easily, financially or elsewise, esp. once we get animals again, so, I hope we can all start doing regional ones as well !

I just found your Channel today. And this is the first video I watched. Just from the first couple of minutes in I knew that I wanted to subscribe; and did. I have been in a bit of a rut. Not motivated at all to cook, prep, can. Although I have never can before. But I do want to can some things. I've been in a bit of a rut because it's been a very busy year and the lack of time has been very discouraging. But after watching this video and I watched one of your other videos I feel motivated again. Thank you for the great ideas.

I love cooking. Hearing you say that it was a semi form of art inspired me. I used to love all things art - I think your cheery demeanour is great too! Im sure the people around you are greatful for all you do! I think I'll go pick up some drawing supplies. It's nice to remember how much one nice person can inspire you. Thank you :)

Subscribed! You inspired me to get off my butt and go make some baked oatmeal and whatever those breakfast pie things were. 😂 I was sitting here thinking I had no clue what to make for dinner tonight or meals this week in general, and poof! Your video pops into my feed. I am inspired to shop my fridge, freezer and pantry this week before I venture to the store, largely thanks to your content. Love your energy, thank you for doing what you do and sharing it with us. ❤

Hello Elysa! I am SO happy to hear this! Yes, definitely work with what you already have and supplement what you buy at the store to save money and rotate you’re existing inventory. We all can get in a rut so isn’t it fun to peak inside of someone else’s kitchen? You’ll love the oatmeal bake! It’s sooo good. Thanks for saying hello! Have a great week!

Aww, thank ya honey. Yup, I’m working with the space I’ve got and managing a stockpile that doesn’t require a complicated inventory system and can be managed if you work full time, like me. It’s good to have food a few months out, for sure, but it takes space and certain processes to make sure you actually use it up. Small pantries are powerful too!

I’ve really gotten into canning this year… I love it! What I love the most is making soups/stews and canning them in pint jars for a quick homemade lunch or dinner! I Iove it! Even my son asked me if I could can some chili for him for his lunches.
