Great progress! If I can suggest one thing though, do buy another pee bottle. I lived in a motorhome fulltime for 3yrs and the biggest limiting factor is emptying your toilet waste. I had 3 Thetford cassettes in the end which extended my offgrid ability to 10days. Even now in my T6 Cali I have a spare cassette for the Porta Potti for extended trips (ie longer than 3days away from campsites).

You are doing just fine,from my experience using cable trunking on the surface to hide power cables etc meant i could replace with ease when i needed to but of course was less neat but my last van was in fact a coach so lots of room,i do have some tips you may find useful..looking forward to more updates..Andy

Hi Becca love the videos, great energy. We have used a Simploo in our self converted van for the last 2 years so thought I'd share our experience. Overall I think they are great I can highly recommend them. I keep the fan running 24/7 they use so little power and they are very quiet. There are 2 of us in the van and we find that after 4 days you can just start to smell something (we have ours vented outside) not bad just a faint odour so that's when we change the bag. It's easier to find a bin for a small bag of waste than a larger bag. We started off using the wee bottle but it has to be emptied daily if you are driving. The wee alarm works great if you are not moving but if you are it will spill out before it gets high enough to set the alarm off. We now have the wee diverted to the grey water tank, we find that works so much better for us with no chance of spillage whilst driving. With the grey water tank there is a mod I can also highly recommend and that is to have a electronic valve fitted to the waste drain pipe with a switch to open and close it in the cab. Alongside this I have a reversing camera kit fitted (£20 ebay) with the camera fitted beside the valve looking down at the floor. With this setup I can line the van up with the drain using the camera, flick the switch to empty the grey waste, see when it's empty and close the valve all without getting out of the cab. I also have a Y connector fitted just before the valve going to a manual drain tap just in case the electric one fails. Best wishes for the rest of the build

Great video sweetie But I think your idea for moving the loo out of the shower every day is a big mistake. It won't be long before the pipe connection wears out and don't forget, the more that goes in it, the heavier it gets. My advice would be to permanently mount it outside the shower but in a cabinet which would double as a seat..that way you're still able to use the space that it occupies.

I have used composting waste bags before. Be careful buying too much stock of these as they get weak over time and are inclined to give way at the seam. Yes the light inside was nice with the doors shut. You could have the same effect with a double roof vent. This set up also gives a good flow for ventilation in hot weather

Loving the sweat top by the way 👽, oh… just a quick tip, don’t throw raw human/dog/cat etc etc into compost (for veg growing) unfortunately we contain not very nice stuff in our body’s that can get into our foods 😮😮. Great vid and looking forward to seeing the next one ❤

Greetings Becca. I noted the comment about shower tray decision. I like to think my input was factor. For a tip's look at urbanvanlife who used a company Anchor for this but as an Engineer I made my own. The metal can be cold but I have spotted on TV the Hydro Wonder a mat that allows shower water to pass through. Standard DIY drain is ok but for a bit of flash recess where fitted. This is terrifying for me,feel like my head is going explode watching this van build. I have very recently found out my family is been torn apart thanks to my lovely now ex wife having extra curricular activities! The only way I can stay in my area been close to my children is to go full time van life. I’m about to purchase a van and have to do a full build before our house gets sold. Hi Philip. It is an awful lot of information & can definitely become overwhelming at times. I’m trying to only focus on the job I’m doing, if I think of the whole thing it’s a head blag! If I can do this, then you absolutely can. If you haven’t heard of Greg Vergoe, go watch his videos from his van build 3/4 years ago - he has a playlist - I found his information the most valuable. He has excellent knowledge & breaks things down simply. He’s helped me a lot. I hope my videos can also help. It’ll be a big job, but will be worth it to stay close to your children 🙏🏽

Having been where you are now Philip (6yrs ago), I can recommend motorhoming whilst it’s all going down. But if you have the cash, buy a ready made van - preferably an A Class if you can. I lived in 2 over 3yrs and it can be pretty tough at times. Go for max comfort and utility. If you have kids, think also about them having some space of their own. Panel van conversions are difficult with a family, even part time. PM me if you want more details. If it helps, 3yrs after my divorce I bought a 4 bed house and remarried and v happy. It does get easier.

I have family for the times I have my two daughters,so they will never stay in the van unless we’re away camping or on a caravan site. I’m a HGV driver Monday to Friday so I will only see the girls on school collections before I drop them off with there mum if she is unable to collect them. My boss has given me the green light to park my van on one of our yards throughout the working week which is a secure yard and I can lock myself in at night. This way I don’t need to worry about the risks of street parking in Liverpool! I have looked at motorhomes but have got the worry if I do need to street park it obviously clear that there’s someone sleeping/living in it and may get unwanted attention. This is why I keep going back to kitting a LWB sprinter out! I do have a little time to get things in place because I have made it perfectly clear to my ex that I’m going nowhere till the house is sold and I have half of the equity in my bank as we have both paid equal amounts and we’re both on the mortgage. At this moment the house isn’t up for sale but will be shortly,even a quick sale will take 3 months at best,so I have some time to fit out a panel van and have a couple of mates who have already offered there assistance and my boss has told me use the warehouse if you need to get out of the weather while doing the fit out.

Made my own compost toilet from plywood with a soft drop dolphin seat from Amazon,a cut down bucket (use plastic throw away bags ,don’t want 💩 in my van overnight) a canning funnel and a Sunpet storage container for the wee , a spray bottle with 50%water/vinegar to clean the funnel …. Can use it in the van or an awning etc ..cost around £60 to make😁….Yeah those American compost loo’s over a grand🧐 and the stench from chemical toilets….EEEEK!!…..lovin your videos although I don’t comment much but always give you a good rating..You and your dad keep up the great work and vids 👍😁

I’ve seen from reviews everyone says it’s the wee bit which ends up smelling more then the poop bit. We’ll see, it’s all a learning curve isn’t it. Talking about insulation: did you know that you should NOT insulate the back door? They are never completely water tight and they have exactly for that holes to let water out again from where it came in (door handles etc) leave it empty inside, only insulate the door on surface facing the cabin...

Only advice I'd give is to watch out for voltage drop and wire sizes with long wire runs, although it looks like that's your Dad's wheelhouse so probably knows more about that then me.

loving your videos and always look forward to the notifications coming through ... you asked if we saw something 'wrong' ... the door that you took the grey/black lining off and you stuffed it with the bottle wool didn't have any sound deadening ... I also follow Margaret & Ladi - he's 3D printing everything and it's taking them ages to do ... don't worry about us .... why not use the door area? ... it's always there yet only seen when using ... you have to keep the door clear and can't use it for storage - the only time you won't use the door is when you're having a shower ... I don't think it's a good idea to have a cubicle ... you end up just using it for storage for things you don't have space for and then when you want to have a shower where do those things end up going while you have a shower and then have to wait for it to dry ...

Ahhh yes someone else pointed out I’d missed the sound deadening so that’s a job for today 🤦🏽‍♀️ thanks for catching that for me. I need the shower cubicle, because of my cat number 1. Secondly it’s doubling up as a drying room as we’re fitting a heat vent in the shower. And also, my shower door is one of those roller one which disappears (again, for the cat), which will also make the space feel bigger in the van as you haven’t got a big bulky door in the way. You’ll see when I fit it & I’ll explain it all as I go 😃 but for what I need a cubicle is the way to go.

For all LED lighting we have used 0.35mm2 thin wall insulation wiring. Current is 7 amps capacity for this size of cable.. We have used .50 mm2 size for long runs and other equipment ie the Heating. current is 11 amps capacity for this size of wire. The Truma draws 6.5 amps but the cable run is approx 2.5 meters and it runs in a conduit with other wires so I used the 11amp cable.. hope this helps. Pops

That’s ace, I do think they’ll be a nicer (how nice can the experience be really) thing to deal with overall. I really couldn’t stomach the cassettes 🤢 The fan is meant to ‘dry’ the 💩 to stop the odour but I’ll keep you posted! Oh I know, I was really mad at that too. I even didn’t order straight away because of it 😂 left it in the basket before I decided I kinda had no choice but to pay it. I must say I am extremely happy with it. Would have ordered the mini or nano if they’d been out at the time, smaller would be more convenient.

Looking good so far :) . Watched loads of these and as Mike Tyson said - everyone has a plan until they gets punched in the mouth, doesn't apply exactly but you get the gist! Toilet / shower room looks TIGHT! How precious are you about the wardrobe space? I've never built or lived in a van, but for me personally the convenience of a shower room / toilet that I didn't need to deconstruct and reconstruct everyday would be worth more than hanging space for clothes. Enjoying the vids, thanks for sharing!

Thanks Craig. I honestly don’t know. I’m completely winging it & developing things as I go. I can manage without hanging space. Would I prefer some for my beautiful summer dresses? Yes. It is a priority? No. I’m with you on the shower. I want that space there permanently, because it’s also going to be my clothes drying room (a heat vent is going in). But without the toilet in, there’s plenty of room for both. I’ll figure it out when we get to the bathroom & im sure you’ll see it on a video 😆

I think the Simploo option is a good one. Does Simploo recommend adding something in the poo bags aka peat moss? If not, do you plan on adding something yourself? This video has giving me the idea on how to create a bathroom for my downstairs living area in my home. I'm planning on adding a half bath downstairs, but a "normal" one would cost at least 7 to 10 grand and my only other bathroom would be out of commission until completed. I like the idea of this toilet option for cost, time, DIY and less invasive. I'd add super easy/no fuss hand washing station--Small sink that drains into container(take the used water to water my outdoor plants) and some easy water dispensing container with a handle or foot pump.

I think they recommend peat moss, and you can also use a sawdust type mixture. I’ll definitely be using one, but not sure which yet. I’ll likely try a few options & see what’s best. That sounds like a lovely idea! Simploo have actually released smaller versions which might suit your idea 😊

I think that I'll stick with the cassette. Theres no real smell involved if you use the chemicals correctly (blue for the poo and pink for the stink) and environmentally friendly versions are available. Messing about in the guts of the thunderbox and juggling with pee pots and poo bags whilst it is still inside the van doesn't strike me as being particularly hygienic. Also, the chemicalndisposal point is one of the best places on the campsite for exchanging gossip.

The simploo is a great idea but in reality the bag, if put in a general bin, will end up in landfill only if people are doing their own human waste composting (three bin, three year cycle) will it turn into useable compost. There is nowhere you could take the bag that would accept it has 'recycling'.

I know, it’s a shame there aren’t these facilities available. Luckily I know several farmers 😉 and I thought it wouldn’t be the worst thing to fertilise the woods either? 😂 I don’t really like the bin option at all, hoping I won’t have to do that much.
