You are right about older bucks rule prime bedding and feeding areas. There's a KZbin page up in Maine where they feed deer 24/7. There were two bucks at one feeder watching a bigger buck that had dropped his antlers. The big buck still showed his dominance over the younger bucks. Even though he had no antlers.

They can smell you, but you can also smell them. I was blowing leafs this past fall. And I could smell a Buck, smell, as I was blowimg leaves into the woods. Two days later, every radio playing in the garage, as I am ripping some wood for a customer. Going out to get a cup of coffee, and I noticed a rather learn 10 pointer, walk by my picture window. Long story short, he ended being bedded for a week or so, 15 ft away from where I was blowing leafs. I know I smellt him, but never would have guessed, he was so close to my house. Reckon you should always believe your nose. Lol 😊

Dan the man! You have taught me how to include hunting pressure into my scouting. Learning how other hunters approach the woods has increased my encounters with bigger bucks. I scouted harder this past spring than ever. Found two of the biggest rub lines I've ever seen. Thought it was going to be pretty good for me this year. I had the worst season ever simply because of the sick deer. I found three different deer this year (on one piece of public land) that was dead from disease. One a nice 135 class ten point. 🤬 I still enjoyed myself but never had a good encounter with a mature deer this year. Maybe next year if God's willing.

I’ve killed most of my big bucks in early season, this past season I got one on September 24 and another October 23, I love early season but it gets hot fast, so you have to try to get them out and taken care of quickly is the worst part about it. But I’ll take it every year.

I find some beds with rubs some beds with a licking branch some with both some with none. What do you make of that? Do you think less used beds have less sign left?
@thehuntingbeast5 ай бұрын
Not really... Rut beds can be used for only a few days a year but be tore up with sign... As far as scapes and licking branches, there not really beds, but does bed there waiting for bucks to come back, and sometimes bucks do the same.

Will bucks actually fight over primary bedding areas. I assume they would just curious
@jeffsharp29815 ай бұрын
They sure will, dominant bucks want those satellite bucks surrounding them as extra protrction
@thehuntingbeast5 ай бұрын
I have not seen them fight, but have seen dominant bucks come in and chase smaller bucks out, so assume yes.
