godswatcher Hi. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching. I hope to get back to making videos soon. I have been busy building a house and moving. Things are starting to settle a bit now.

I studied your video and tried this on my Savage 116 in 300 WM. The added rigidity and weight of the rockite helps to keep the front end down when i shoot. For the rear i didn't want any permanant substance in my stock so i used kitty liter filled inside two ziplock bags. It served the purpose well and cut down the recoil of the 300 in a lite weight rifle. Instead of the hop it just comes straight back now. Accuracy is spot on! I hit two deer at 200yds shot placement hit right where i was aiming. That was the furthest that i have killed anything so far. Thank you for the informative video it really has helped me out, and i will be trying this out on another rifle of mine in the future.

I have a 110 engage XP, and have thought about bedding the action. I'm wondering how much of an accuracy improvement did you see in your rifle after doing this?

Hey, I've been enjoying your videos. I too have the hog hunter and I have a question. I've only shot about a box through it so far and I have noticed that after shooting 5 or so rounds the magazine will start to rub the bottom of the bolt and make the action sticky. I took the stock off and mag out and installed again and the action is smooth again. when I shoot it more it happens again. To the best of my knowledge I have installed it correctly. Have you heard of this problem? After watching this video I did not put my stock back on like you did, Just torqued them both at 25inchlbs.. Any response will be appreciated! thanks
@southernexposure12056 жыл бұрын
Its Wheetie Hi, and thanks for watching. I have not seen this problem but two things come to mind as possibilities. One may be the follower is not inserted the correct way. Two is the possibility the magazine feed lips are bent too wide open allowing the follower to contact the bolt. Just some thoughts. Good luck.
@itswheetie98986 жыл бұрын
just followed your video with the torque on the front being 40inchlbs and the rear screw being 25inchlbs. the magazine isnt smooth as it was when i had them both torqued to 25inchlbs.. It looks like the top of the magazine is rubbing my bolt and its leaving marks on the underside of my bolt. the magazine is inserted all the way to the bottom and i felt the click when it seated. maybe this can give you another hint. or maybe you already answered my question hehe the follower is inserted to where the tallest part is facing the bolt handle. I guess it wouldnt hurt to lightly sand the top sides of my magazine?

hello sir I am a fan of Savage too!!!! I found one these rifles in pawn shop but didn't now. what exact model it was till now. and yes the stock is flimsy. may go. back see about purchase ?? may I ask what the load you worked up for it. if I buy it could be a start
@southernexposure12057 жыл бұрын
Larry Alexander I will with the understanding that you should not start with this load but work up to it while checking for signs of over pressure. The load that works for me is 43 grains of Varget over a CCI primer in Federal brass. The bullet is seated at .015 off the lands in my rifle. Watch my other videos that show how I prepare my brass. The rifle is very capable of shooting way under 1 moa at 100 yds. Be safe and shoot often.

Any chance on a video that shows you actually going through this process?
@southernexposure12055 жыл бұрын
Unless someone provides me with another rifle like this one I couldn’t. When I did this I had no idea whether it would work or not so I did not video the process. I was pleasantly surprised that it did work and is still holding up after hundreds or rounds fired and several hunting seasons. Thanks for watching.

I have this same gun and I just got the primary arms scope also. I have six hole weaver rings that look just like those. Looks like you were running into the same problem with the rings fitting on the two piece base. Do you think that is sturdy enough for the scope with them hanging off? I got the rings in today and was pretty bummed because I don't have a one piece base to use to put them on.
@southernexposure12057 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Yust I too was concerned about the two piece ring base but according to my groups they seem to be stable. If the two piece bases are installed and torqued to proper specs I dont see how they could move or flex due to the thickness of the material and their short length. I was concerned about the one piece base interfering with loading cartridges into the rifle as it is a tight enough fit with the two piece. Since I do not have a one piece base to compare it with for the time being I will stick with what I have. If anyone wants to donate a good one piece base to the cause I will be glad to install, test, and report on it. 😉
@jonathanyust17617 жыл бұрын
Haha! If I get my gun budget around to pick up a one piece set, maybe I'll just fill you in lol. I know exactly what you mean. I was worried about some finger room for loading the blind mag. It would be different with a detachable mag. I'll have to try that with mine and see how it does.

Sorry I do not know of anything that would be stiff enough and be lighter. Good luck. Let me know if you try something else and your results.

Bondo auto body filler is much lighter and will be just as stiff in this application.

What is the best type of shells to run through Savage hog Hunter 308
@southernexposure12052 жыл бұрын
All mine are hand loaded. Otherwise you have to buy several brands and bullet weights and test fire to see what your rifle likes best.

May I ask a noob question? Why do you even bother to stiffen the stock if the barrel is not supported by the stock?
@southernexposure12056 жыл бұрын
Sam Yan because it can flex enough to come in contact with the barrel if it isn't stiffened

How much weight did the bedding add to the rifle?
@southernexposure12056 жыл бұрын
Ramus Sumar After the bedding was added the stock weighed about 2 lbs 12 oz. I did not think to weigh the stock before I bedded it. If you have one you could weigh your stock and post it in the comments below. Thanks.
@porkchopspapi57577 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you use the rockite in the rear stock ?
@southernexposure12057 жыл бұрын
Porkchop's Papi - it would have been too heavy in my opinion and also for the "feel" and dampening effect of the silicone
@tristan86097 жыл бұрын
How much weight was added to the stock? If you could take a guess
@southernexposure12057 жыл бұрын
Tristan I wish I could remember for sure but I dont. My guess is between 8 and 16 ounces total for the rockite and the silicone. The finished stock only weighs 2.75 lbs so it is not very heavy. Also since I added about the same weight front and rear, the balance is still good and you dont notice the additional weight. Thanks for watching.
