Further adventures in making my own clothes as I step into a harder pattern because I am very brave actually. It went mostly okay! It's made from a single bed doona/duvet cover which cost $4, so the total cost for this dress was $22 including the pattern.
The dress is the Hope Dress by StyleArc. It's available in (Australian) sizes 4 to 30 (check the size guide!) and you can buy it in hard copy or digital download right here
www.stylearc.c...
Thanks also to StyleArc for permission to use the pattern cover sketch in my thumbnail.

I'm sure the sewing police have informed you that it is a raglan sleeve. It actually works nicely for less fitted tops or dresses. More comfy. Love your fab.

Great idea to use thrifted bedding to make up a pattern before using your “bee fabric”. We all have that special, precious “bee fabric” that we’re afraid to use and end up wasting and ruining.

I love this dress, and the fabric is gorgeous. What a fabulous job you did! Do have a go at buttonholes, especially if your machine has an automatic one. I avoided making things with buttons for years, but as soon as I got up the courage to use my machine's auto buttonhole, I realised how easy it was and I've done hundreds of the things now.

No kidding! The pattern is $20 AU and fabric at $11.00/yard US we are talking nearly $70.00 for a simple self-made dress! I have searched in the 2 local thrift shops and found nothing nearly as nice as yours!!

Style Arc are known for being overly reticent on their instructions. For those button loops I use small elastic hair bands but I think next time you make it, just sew the back straight up or cut on the fold. The dress looks great on you.
@Frogglin

I have since made it again and left out the button entirely, which was much quicker and fits just fine.

The only difference between an inexperienced sewer making buttonholes and an experienced sewer making them is ... experience. My advice is to make rows of buttonholes in scrap fabic to get experience. Then, when you work on a garment, have no distractions, go over the steps mentally, take a deep breath, take your time, and just do them.
