Bedford town centre lift tour. Certainly found some old ones here. Part 2/2

Apologies for the horrible quality of some of this, but it was the mobile video camera or nothing!
The open cage lift is the most disappointing with it's low frame rate!
PART 1
The car park next to the bus station was the oldest. Completely original Express Lifts with no annunciator and unusually large windows in the door(s). All the car park lifts in the area were based on the same design, some had DDA buttons and annunciators.
PART 2
I noticed an entrance to a building near the high street that was open. At the end was a very old open cage lift with manual doors, with the same cable design as my 'Wendover Court' video (reminder clip within this video) - the cables are attached underneath the lift car. It only travels between the Ground and First floor, there does appear to be a Second floor, but this is not served by this lift.
Found quite an old Otis lift in a shop called Beales, interesting motor sound. I've increased the audio gain so that you can easily hear it. Reminds me of one of my Bracknell town centre videos - the disabled lift in the High Street car park.

So weird watching someone get excited about the lifts we use all the time, and are so used to in Bedford!

Yeah, still lots of these around if you know where to look. Except in this one, the red LED display (usually green vaccum fluorescent), the interior buttons having text on them, and the 'old sounding' motor are unusual.

0:24 to 0:32 - looks kind of haunting, don't you think! Quite a high ceiling in this lobby. Strange thing is, this building has 3 landings - Gnd, 1st and 2nd, but I'm almost certain it doesn't serve the 2nd floor.

Ah! It does serve the 2nd, there is a keyswitch in the lift car, you can see it easily on the COP

6:33 i have been in that motor room! Sadly i didnt have enough storage on my phone to record. The motors were massive and there was about 2/3 circuits and 1/3 relays. Very interesting up there. A thing up there said installed in 1982. Was as hot as a sauna.

oh that cage lift!i remember getting in one with my family as a little child and feeling terrified!im glad they don t exist much nowadays!

Although the quality is significantly lower (the editing) these types of videos are actually quite enjoyable. Would you ever do any like this again?

If the year had been like, 2005 then absolutely! But now, it's very unlikely that I'd find anything that I would enjoy filming. I remember the days where you could go around a town centre and find the old lift here and there, but I also remember when it ended. 2010 I stopped doing videos like this. 10 years later and finding an old lift 'in public' is almost non-existant. Take me back in time and I'd spend weeks doing videos like this one!
