A side-by-side review, of the old Version and the updated ones from bedrock. The Bedrock Cairn Pro 2, adventure sandals.
I’ve just got back from walking 1600 km, on a Camino the (G65) from the edge of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. through France and into Spain ( 1500 kms of that with the new bedrock sandals on) 😎
Apart from the tread Being worn off a little, on the balls of the feet. The sandals themselves or in full working order!
I’ve put them through everything with a 65 L pack on The whole way. (13 kilograms) in weight.
I wouldn’t recommend doing that with a pack on over any long journeys. until you’ve broken in your feet.
When you first buy a pair of this, they feel tough, as they’re made to last.
Start off with short hikes and build yourself up to wearing a minimalist sandal
Happy adventuring !

Nice review Would you like to tell us more why’d you not pick the 3D version for both pairs?
@16yearstravel
@16yearstravel 3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t pick the 3-D version because I use them for very long walks and there is a small raised part of the 3-D part at the front. which I was worried that it would produce blisters I would like the opportunity to take the 3-D pair out for a test trial. Also the 3-D pair are thicker. therefore more heavier. I wanted something very minimalistic. I wanted to feel the ground under my feet. I used to use The 5 finger runners. but they just don’t hold up. These bad boys do ! But like I mentioned I would like to give the 3D Version a go I just went back to what works for me the 1st time

The single front-of-sandal and between toes strap is inadequate for steep downhill travel no matter how tight the ankle straps are. Tevas are better broader and thicker.

I just bought these yesterday, and I really like them. With that said, they’re hurting the space between my big toe and second toe. Any tips on how to fix this? Does it get better over time?
@16yearstravel
@16yearstravel 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I would recommend slackening the back heel strap off In my Opinion, these sandals are not made to be over tightened. they are meant to be worn loosely, like a pair of flip-flops. The only time I would tighten the strap going across, would be whilst I’m going downhill ( if there’s a lot of downhill ) a lot ! When you first get them they are tough on the soul of the foot, I find . ( try building yourself up to them. In Order words, building the soul of your foot up to them, over a period of time a few weeks to maybe even a month. With them being minimalistic, they do take a bit of getting used to They are quite tough and are made to last.. so it does take a bit of tine to break them in . Hopefully with loosening off, you won’t find this issue with the toes. Furthermore, When you lift your foot, there should be about 3 mm of space, at least! you do need to have air circulation underneath them to I find. ( between the soul of your foot and the bottom of The sandal footbed. whilst lifting off the ground. Final thoughts… wear them fairly loose all over 99% of the time and trust they will work when you put your foot back down ( sometimes your feet may slightly shift out of the sandal big toe, when you’re on an awkward downhill. once you lift your foot again, this will be rectified. Trusting them ( The sandals ) is a big part of it I believe .. And they will surely deliver the goods….

(my 2c) I have had a pair (no plug) for 7 years now. I like them a bunch. However when the temperatures get hot I switch to a more minimalist BF sandal as the Cairn holds the heat (& sweat) in much more than my thinner leather foot bed Luna's.

@@16yearstravel I tried using the BR's looser - the Lunas are still cooler irregardless. But because the BR's adjust more easily that my leather laced Lunas - I use them more in cooler weather sometimes with Toe or Tabi socks.

For the heel strap, do you prefer the velcro or the hook system?
@16yearstravel
@16yearstravel 2 жыл бұрын
Probably the old version. Velcro, as you can really dial it In and it has a little bit more Cushing on the back of that strap. at least that’s how it feels to me 🤔 But to be bluntly honest, the differences are so minute, it’s probably not worth mentioning. There is obviously a reason why they updated the section. I’ve done thousands of kilometres in both And the differences would literally be measured in 1% clutching at straws scenario You can still adjust the new ones exceptionally well. Final thoughts would be..if they obviously changed it for a reason, and usually it’s for a good reason. ( I would like to believe) maybe it makes it more robust Who knows.. I think you be pretty sweet with either/or If you’re doing a through hike walk that consists over several thousand kilometres. I will probably get some little spare parts from them as the joins are made with cast it seems. And one broke on me. One… But let me add I was hiking with a 65 L 13 kg pack on over 2200 km on all kinds of ups and downs and on he flat and I’m a pretty heavy fellow in general ranging from 97 kg to a 110. Pushing hard with them. Even then, when one failed. a bit of Paracort fixed the problem. not much can really go wrong with them… Worth every penny….

Not my favorite for steep downhill trail,or big slanted rocks.
@16yearstravel
@16yearstravel Жыл бұрын
That’s fair enough Neal - they seem to work for me. I have to tighten them up slightly more for downhill though. Slanted Rocks ? I think I know what you’re on about If there’s loads of sharp, jagged rocks and stones in abundance. Yer .. They can be hard going. But most trails I’ve been on only have a couple 5% of those never really bothered me to be honest. If I’m going on a big multi day, I would always take Trail runners as well. When you’re doing an overnighter, most people pack flip-flops or sandals anyway I just tend to wear them all day on the others. but if I’ve got to walk over a shitload of rock I may take trailer runners out. I walked 2200 km across to Camino, and my boots stayed on my bag for most of the time I’d say 90% The time before I had Trail runners, I think I would just opt for those on/ in the bag in the future Just in case

Nice review I'm looking to get a pair. Wondering do the straps adjust wide enough for somebody with my feet. I have very very wide feet. 4 EEEE WITH fat wide toe. I have to fight to put my flip-flops on my feet because my feet are wider than the straps. With the straps in the back it look like this will be easy for me to put my foot in. I see your footprint on the old pair I'm wondering how long did it take for the footbed to get like that. My Flip flops Within two months my foot bed look the same way as your foot bed looks on your old pair. In the video it cool because it shows that you are a sandal fan and I am too. Take it easy sir and thank you for the review.

Mack Jenkins hey Mack, My feet are super wide as well,. I have to get a wide fitting boot,. Redrock does supply a sizing chart, that you can print off and put your foot on to, to see if it’s going to work for you. The front straps are fully adjustable, I would be surprised if there did not fit, My suggestion is download the chart that they supply, and take a look. but try to buy them with no more overhang than half a centimetre at the front and back, they are “true to size” Also like I mentioned on the video I walked 800 km across the Camino and I trekked to Annapurna base camp in them. Plus many other places and I’m a heavy guy.

Gary the gear Guy thank you oh so you have my feet to. So you know how hard it is to find Footwear. I have tried to look for the sizing cart and downloaded but I can't find it for some reason. I must be doing something wrong. I've called bedrock and I can't get through. And the stores are not open for me to try to go in and try you on. I really really want to get a pair so bad. I'm curious do you know how long it took for the footbed to show your foot print on it. I'm not extremely heavy but I'm also not small. Again great review video you did and thank you for your reply sir. I keep trying to find this chart size.

Mack Jenkins Hey Mike, in regards the footprint it’s probably because the have not been scrubbed are dirty it shows the foot print more. the sandals will last you for many many years of hard use. remember! these are minimalist sandals, and don’t have a great deal of cushioning that’s in my opinion. the idea is They are lightweight and you can feel the train ground under your feet unlike the cushiony feeling of a trainer. If you want something a bit more robust, maybe get the 3-D pros

Gary the gear Guy oh okay I was just concerned that the footbed wearing down fast cuz that's what happened to my Flips flops that's good they last long. It's good to show the wear and tear you put the sandals through. I am okay with the minimalist I do a lot of things Barefoot as well. Sometimes it takes me a min to put my flip flops so I just go 👣 barefooted. I'm just having trouble finding the sizing chart to measure my foot. This help change my life I don't have to worry about walking around barefooted 👣in a public stores when I can't get my flip flops on. The fits is a lil crazy but I will be wearing Bedrock sandals for 30 years instead of my Flip flops. I still will wear my flip flop time to time though. I've been wearing them for 30 years everyday year round since that's the only Footwear that will fit my very very wide feet. They are so comfortable to wear to work all day. My boss don't hear me coming like he did when I was wearing flip-flops. I scared him the other day at his office door cuz he didn't hear my Flip flops. He's thinking about getting a pair now.
