Regarding the breathability differences, “denier” refers to the thickness of the thread strands (more specifically the weight of 9000m of the thread….thicker thread weighs more for a given length), so a lower denier fabric will have smaller threads making up the face material and the individual threads fit together tighter and have smaller gaps. Higher denier fabric (and so thicker material threads) will have larger gaps. The larger gaps will allow a greater amount of vapour through it compared with the smaller gaps of the lower denier fabric (referring to face material only, not the PTFE layer).

Cairn Evo Sandals have a smoother upper and thin flat tough sole better for hiking, riding a bicycle, strolling around town, The Cairn Evo PRO has a toe-triangle bar up front for better traction. Also has water activated extra-sticky Vibram Mega-grip outsole that works awesome on wet environments like rafting, boating, the beach, water parks, even wet floors you are safer and easier to negotiate with that sole like if you were washing your car, truck or boat. What you wear can help you by what activity you are involved in.

Good video on the 2 Bedrock sandals you have. I love Bedrock sandals they are awesome to wear. I have a pair of the cairns & i love wearing them everyday to work. They hold up well for the type of work I do being an long distance Truck 🚛 driver. My footbed looks just like your footbed do. I love ❤️ how your footbed has a worn-out smooth footprint on the footbed just like mine do except mine has a 4 toes footprint because my lil toe hang off the footbed of my sandals because I have big very very Extremely wide feet 🦶. The worn-out smooth footprint footbed is a good thing man because it show The true mileage you are putting on the sandals. I am thinking about getting the 3D one too. I love these sandals because since I have very very extremely wide feet 🦶 they are so easy to put on my feet 🦶 then flip flops 🩴. @16yearstravel
@16yearstravel Жыл бұрын
These sandals are true to size - don’t get them bigger than your normal shoe size - my shoes size is 10 & 1/2 UK or 11 & 1/2 US. they don’t do half sizes I don’t believe … On my bedrocks it says 11/12 US that will translate into a size 10 UK. The half a size are usually there because I have wide feet. A good way to figure this out is - get a bit technical - draw around your feet, while standing on paper or cardboard - measure the distance - make sure your pencil is vertical, whilst you’re drawing around your feet. Also, look at all your; shoes/trainers/ runners- whatever you have and see if there is a consistency in the sizing you already possess. Just by looking at that, should give you an accurate idea on the shoe size/sandals size you need. These sandals are not like normal flip-flops or thongs as they’re called in Australia . There isn’t much overhang on the ankle area or front toe. I would say if you can fit your finger in the front and one in the back, while standing directly over the top of the sandal. you’ll on a winner. I can barely get my finger in the front and the back. “you don’t want to have too much overhang” especially on the front. as when you’re going over varied services These are the points that will catch. So it does literally have to mirror your foot with not a lot of overhang - 1.5 - 2cm sounds about right to me. I would try and keeping it to the 1.5cm side. By measuring your foot on a piece of paper and adding 1 - 1.5cm you should be sweet. ( it sounds to me like you would be in an 11/12 sandal size. As you have size 11 us feet the same as me

Those older ones are better. I’ve got a pair I bought about 14 month ago and the flick locks are not holding when bearing weight and they’re slipping shorter those locks on your older versions are far superior to the newer models they’re selling these days. On the newer ones you need some weird tiny key (not alan) to re tighten flick lock. On those older versions it’ll take a small flat head to tighten.

The Wave (Plus) is nowhere near a good multitool. Here's why. The Wave has practically unusable medium size flat screwdriver and fake Phillips screwdriver, since the bitholder is too wide and too short. The Rebar, on the other hand, has the real 3D Phillips screwdriver and good flathead screwdrivers. The Wave is remarkably poor in the tool equipment, the scissors only take space - generally, scissors rather belong in a manicure than in a multitool because they can easily be substituted by the knife or pincers in most cases. The ruler is almost illegible on the Wave, whereas on the Rebar it's perfect. The plier jaws are wider and better to use in the Rebar, while the needle nose crap in the Wave is unstable and too narrow. In general, the Rebar is much steadier and more efficient. I also highly appreciate the Rebar's awl, which is completely missing in the Wave. The Wave is more fashionable than usable - it's nothing but an overpriced toy. Of course, those who have bought the Wave just to masturbate over it's design without really using it for work will never learn this truth.

Thank you for your comment - I’ve never used the other thing you’re suggesting. So I can’t compare them. but what I can say is I’ve worked in the trade industry for the past eight years now and i use mine for work every day. So I would have to say I disagree with a lot of what you said in regards to functionality and the build quality . Also, they have a fantastic warranty. If anything brakes they replace it sometimes they replace the whole thing. That’s why they are expensive - I know because I broke mine, probably doing something I wasn’t supposed to with it and they replaced it with a brand-new one. - No questions asked - But that’s just my personal opinion using the tool for nearly a decade for work 🤷🏻‍♂️…

Really helpful review. I'm looking into these for Camino de Frances in May. I'm into barefoot shoes for running and day hikes but was looking for something a bit more substantial for a long hike while also avoiding blisters (often a problem for me in boots etc). Can only source the 3D's in the UK (£50 more to buy the regulars from the US) - it seems though like the difference is close enough. Will still be taking some trainers too of course so I can swap if needed 😅

Nice view! The Allak is a rotational tent so wasn’t sure which way you were pitching - head to wind I think. The head side is 10cm wider than the foot and the vestibules are more aero from the foot - Hilleberg recommend pitching foot into strong winds. If it’s not too windy pitching one of the doors into wind ensures you get one door blissfully calm! If you’re concerned about movement adding a second set of poles would make it rock solid (with pegs well in).

I walked every day apart from a few with the bedrocks, the thin ones, cairn pro 2 The answer to your question is it varies Sometimes there were eight or nine hour days - some days 5h days when I was travelling through France I don’t suggest anyone goes straight out and starts doing those types of big days until they have built their feet, ankles and micro muscles up, through months of use with them… also, I just don’t like wearing boots/ trainers at the Best of times. my feet can’t breathe and I feel like I’m at work. as soon as I put the bedrocks on, I’m back on holiday again 😁 If I remember, I walked with them straight for just over two weeks maybe more 🤔and then I put the trainers on for one day and went back on to them ( bedrocks ) for another week and then the trainers. so I suppose having some soft trainers to take the load off every week or every other week does help. but everyone is different and all depends on the individual in the end Hope this helps 🙏

@@16yearstravel sorry, my question was a bit ambiguous. I wanted to see the *difference* you’d expect on the Camino (in kilometers or miles) per day with each type of shoe that you were comparing in the video… Cairn pro v 3D pro 2. I’m an experienced minimalist shoe wearer and hiker. I’m thinking of going to Cairns and wonder how big a difference the foot fatigue factor is between the two models in your video. Do you think you could walk more miles more comfortably with the 3D pro 2?
@16yearstravel
@16yearstravel Жыл бұрын
@@RC-qf3mp the answer to your question is definitely… I think the 3-D version would make it a lot easier on your foot on the Camino The reason I brought them is because I wanted to try to walk a full Camino with just those 3D pros and see what happens in regards to compression - my last ones, (cairn pro )compressed by nearly half . so if they do the same, ( 3D ) they would be roughly the perfect thickness In ending - I would suggest 3-D pros for the Camino for sure 👍
@RC-qf3mp
@RC-qf3mp Жыл бұрын
@@16yearstravel ok thanks. But the compression takes away from the degree of cushion. The cushion is in the air and space between material. When the material breaks down, it loses that space and becomes less soft/cushiony. Like smashing down feather pillow . The mass of the shoe stays the same, only it becomes compressed. All shoes with cushion eventually break down.
@16yearstravel
@16yearstravel Жыл бұрын
@@RC-qf3mp yes I agree - the reason I mentioned it is because I like the minimalistic feel. The 3D are a bit thick for me, ( day to day use on the trails ) but after walking at Camino, or whilst walking, they could compress to the perfect thickness over time ( to give me the cushioning and also, the minimalistic feel. so I can enjoy them similar to the cairn pros.
