For those of you that can't find waterproofed tarps on the market, you can buy heavy duty "painters" canvas and waterproof it yourself by stretching your tarp over a wooden frame, tacking it in place, then use a combination of beeswax and boiled lindseed oil, heatedin a double boiler. Use a stiff, wide, paint brush to apply it, then let it dry in the open air in direct sunlight on the rack. Bir of a chore, but it works. For blankets try the blankets available at Harbor Freight, sewing two of them together with upholstery thread on a machine or by hand, to produce a VERY warm blanket for the inside of your blanket roll.

In some videos people do it simply melting wax in a double boiler then apply it on canvas with a brush then last step laying the canvas flat on cardboard and finish with a hair dryer till its all evenly absorbed

Great Set-Up. What size and where did you get the tarp?
@mitchelljohnson38075 жыл бұрын
In Australia we call bed rolls a swag, with is basically the same thing but with a thin foam mat for comfort, you can get fancy swags with look more like a tent with a roof (keep the snakes and spiders out) but nothing but then sleep under canvas by a fire of hardwood coals

If your swag needs a pole it's a tent. I love my canvas Swag.

That looks like a great simple system to do some overnighters in. Very well made, too. Cool.
@survivewithout10 жыл бұрын
its fast and simple. I really like it but you would still need something for your gear if it rained

Very good idea. Really like the way you took off your muk boots. I have been wrestling with mine now for two weeks getting them off and on. That looks like a great way to do it and keep you pants leg folded. Good tip on the bed roll too.
@survivewithout10 жыл бұрын

O.K. Now add your 4 lbs sleeping bag, And 2 sleeping pads, And an extra blanket, And you will be good for 32 faren-heigh, That's freezing. Kephart stats that a 9lbs sleeping roll is needed, Don't even try it with your set up. Summer camping, may be, Add a sleeping pad and an extra blanket.
@jackduffy18175 жыл бұрын
I think you should have left it at the video made in the dark, I can see the problem heer, You guy's are in Australia with a 110 degrees Fahrenheit in the shade, And you can sleep on the floor with the snakes, I'm in Canada and in the winter it gets to 60 degrees below Celsious, SoTye me kangaroo down sport. Then take a walk in the park Clark. What a mix up.,
