As a long time musician, Yamaha seems to have a reputation for consistently putting out high quality, reliable instruments. I picked up one of these in mist green in January of 2024 online, and have been playing it almost daily for a bit less than a year now. It is an absolutely wonderful instrument (gorgeous to look at as well), I certainly can't make it sing like Nick can but it is super beginner friendly and as I'm playing more styles of music I LOVE the precise tone controls for dialing in treble/bass and neck/bridge ratio to your personal preference. I can't advocate for this instrument enough, it really is a jack of all trades and is easily worth every penny for its versatility and build quality. I plan to keep it and enjoy improving for many years to come, certainly seems like an instrument you can grow into

Great demo video. I've had mine for about 4 months now. Out of my 5 basses this is my go to bass. So versatile especially for recording. I recommend it, and for the price you get a lot of bass guitar for little money. I didn't get paid for this. just my opinion.

Nice video thanks. I got mine from a popular "Sweet" web retailer and it was a mess. The fret edges were sharp and hurt my hand, the nut wasn't cut accuratly so intonation was a problem as well as playability at the specified action. I called the retailer and was told I could "talk" to the techs who supposedly inspect the instruments but I couldn't see the value in talking. I took it to a pro shop and spent the money to have all the problems rectified and now I can enjoy the bass. I was surprised being a Yamaha how poorly the instrument was set up and how it left the factory in that condition and also with any of the inspections the internet retailer allowed to slip through. It's a super nice bass once it's set up properly. Hopefully this one I got was a rare occurance.

Sorry to hear you has such a crappy experience. I've never encountered such problems with a Yamaha.
@prestachuck28674 жыл бұрын
That switch is intersting, but it seems as though it might serve mostly to confuse when you're trying to get a sound in a live band setting. I cannot help but to think that Yamaha might have hit the target more squarely with a simple two band EQ and just four knobs.
@helloitsnicko4 жыл бұрын
Yeah exactly - I think you're completely right that it could confuse some people, and yeah, particularly in a band context. That's why I think it's a good idea to immediately discard the label on the front. They're just different sounds, really. As I said in the video though, they're all good sounds, and have their uses. It's just a case of getting to know this bass. I don't like the idea of almost being told to use *specific* tones for *specific* styles of playing, that view could be kinda limiting. It probably isn't good to get in the mindset of "right and wrong" when it comes to something like bass tones!

Awesome demo, nick. I do like the blue finish on this bass. I also like the other colors on this bass like red, black, and pewter. Plus the versatility sounds phenomenal. I own a Yamaha trbx bass and it sounds killer. It’s a real keeper for me.
@helloitsnicko3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alex! I've seen the red and black ones in person and I must say this blue is definitely the nicest! Haven't seen a pewter one though. If the metallic-ness is done as well as it is on the blue one then I bet that'd look sick. This is one of those rare basses where I think a lot of people will get it as their first, but end up keeping it forever. Really good.

I bought the 5-string version of this bass a while back and it is such a killer sounding bass. And the factory blue finish looks stunning. It is a definite keeper for sure.

I tried it and didn’t like it. Too heavy, body contour feels wrong, too many knobs and switch positions. Some kinda weird ass thumb notch on the pickup that makes you play in only that spot. I greatly prefer my Squire Affinity.
