I don't know much about the others, but PHIGHTING does have certain qualities that attract various types of people. Often the very dedicated types. The characters are horned, item-based weapon wielding humanoids who live in a strange violent world and have very particular dynamics with one another. That alone attracts at least 5 different types of people to my knowledge.

While pushing the game will help it get the recognition it deserves, it's also important to note that new players means inexperienced teammates. The game has no matchmaking system yet (outside of the separation of pro and regular servers), so there's no way for the game to distinguish between little Johnathan who just found it on the homepage and an average experienced player. New players is not in any way bad, but there still needs to be some sort of safety net between skill levels so that matches are fair. Phighting is coded by one dude in college. It'd be better for him to not have to worry about making a balanced matchmaking system right now.

I'd wish roblox care even enough or anything, I've been tired of all the same games and recently only been actually able to enjoy Twentyone as a simple blackjack game based on the RE7 Banned Footage DLC and it is really fun. Love this! As someone who's jumped into this game since some of the earliest playtests, early on the lore and character design really wasnt the forefront of this game until much later on. But this video really hits the nail that the biggest thing keeping it going was the passion. When you have a passion to make a game that's fun and you want people to enjoy, it really does grow into something amazing. All of the UI, maps, and even gameplay started off very different to how it is currently, and one thing that really allowed phighing to prosper was the team's willingness to keep working on it till it was enjoyable and fun. Of course, a game like this is always a nightmare to balance, but they've been working on this game for ages now and it's come a long way. (still having ptsd of how unbalanced old boombox ult was) And it's not stopping anytime soon. That passion really does shine into the characters a lot, and I think the introduction of character trailers heightens that even more. If there's any takeaway from this random block of text in the comments, then it's this: keep that passion for your projects! Even if you don't know much about characters, story, lore, anything like that, keep at it and work with people who can help you! Phighting has a whole team making music, maps, events for skins, and so much more that wouldn't be possible without teamwork and a drive to keep making it even through the lacks of players or balance issues. If you aren't good at something, don't ever let that make you think you'll never get there. And even if you are a solo dev or artist or whatever passion you may have, find others to help you up and encourage you for those hard creative blocks. And be willing to make mistakes! Anyways, time to go back to my void of procrastinating eternally. Hope this inspires someone!

this is not secrets to character design, but rather how phighting devs design their characters. Just pick something practical and add something that makes the characters stand out from each other. I think the best one that I've heard is when you can recognize their shadows despite not being seen, that's kind of like an actual 'secret'.

Another cool thing is that the game kinda got a burst of popularity upon Subspace's release. My first phestival was Bat v Rat, the update where he got introduced, and the game went from around 4 players to i think almost a hundred at its peak? I saw it gain more attention on stuff like Twitter, too, which is really cool.

its becouse before bat vs rat, the game was shut down basically, each playtest lasted for specific amount of time before game was shut down, there were 4 playtests and since fourth one (bat vs rat) the game stopped shuting down for update

Well, the average phighting, regretevator + other bright colored game fans don't really play these games, idk what's with these games with an aura that pulls shippers, wattpad writers, yt animators and mentally insane people. When you see other games with an actual story like Arcane Odyssey, people focus on the lore and love the characters by their roles, acts and their whole person. I'm starting to suspect that most trendy fandoms in media don't actually have a fandom, they just like the character designs. It's kinda like FPE where there is little story being shown with the characters and just their current situation in that one video and somehow it spawned a whole 'fandom'.
