Bee Gees Heart Breaker Reaction 1. I totally picture a dramatic car drive after being heart broken with this song. 2. There is def a distinct difference with the 80s and 90s style here. I don't know what it is and I can't get my finger on it but it's there. 3. Which version do you like better? Dionne Warwick or The Bee Gees? I'm in the Dionne Warwick Camp.

I love this song! I love the BeeGees version. For initial hearing, I think the best version is Dionne's clear amazing❤ voice with the BeeGees backing her up. However, for listening over and over, I like the BeeGees best. More soothing and I dont get tired of when they sing it.❤❤❤

Maurice has said that he literally cried on this one…he felt so strongly that they should have recorded it! They did sing backup for Dionne, but you have to listen closely. You can hear them when she sings the word heartbreaker.

The Dionne Warwick version sounds very bright and "Popish"( over produced) for a breakup song, while the Bee Gees put you in a somber, reflective mood that is appropriate for the song. So I would choose the bee Gees version.

Thank you for finding this song! Most reviewers haven't found it yet. I do prefer the Bee Gees version. You should check out another song called "Emotion". The Bee Gees wrote it for Samantha Sang in the late 70s and she released it. The Bee Gees can be heard in the background vocals . The Bee Gees released their version of Emotion in 2001 and I love both versions!

I honestly like both versions equally! But I must say Mr.Barry's voice is so very entrancing. Out of both versions my mind ONLY goes to Barry's and the twins version right away. Barry's THE BESSSST singer and song writer out there past and present. Although I do think that Justin Bieber is quite close. It takes A Lot of pain to write songs this well.

The version from Dionne W sounds great but, in my opinion this song is more for the BGs type of style. Her voice is strong and deep unlike theirs and I think it doesnt completely go with the lyrics. You have many valid points and I learn watching your reactions. Great job!

I like The Bee Gees version better only because I can just listen to them all day, they always bring a smile to my face even if it is a sad type song. Their voices just do something to my heart and head--can’t explain it. Barry always said he liked love/romantic songs and ballads. He is also a big country music fan. I think Their R& B style is great. He once said that he didn’t see much difference between country and R & B as a matter of fact Islands in the stream was originally written for Dianna Ross but Kenny Rogers showed up 1st heard the demo and wanted to do it.

I also prefer Dionne Warwicks version. She sings like she is in the fresh throes of devestation, whereas the Bee Gees sing it as though they are all cried out and lost. A difference in expression, but maybe if we werent so used to Dionne Warwicks rendition? When you have a chance, check out baby Bee Gee brother, Andy Gibb. I call him Barry lite. He sounds and looks like Barry but just not the same oomph to him.

I agree with you that the two versions seem to portray people in different stages of grief and see Dionne Warwick’s version as you do. I felt like The Bee Gees interpreted this song as someone who’d experienced a loss but had moved through it and reached some acceptance, even growth or joy in getting to the other side. It seems that a key change accompanies this optimism. With Dionne ‘s version and voice I imagine the loss of a romantic relationship but with the Bee Gee’s I imagine someone or some people causing a different type of disappointment or loss. I of course have no way of knowing but that’s what I imagine. Dionne has a gorgeous voice but I prefer the harmonies of the Bee Gees. I also enjoy the change in dynamics and tempo and the change in feelings (around 4:35-4:45) as their version of this song progresses. Also, it just resonates more with me. Beautiful song either way!

Thanks for the reaction. I'd have to say the Dionne Warwick version. Having said that - the Bee Gees where getting up there by 2001. If they'd done it back when they where on top of their game who knows. Did you know Barry and Robin Gibbs are who inducted ABBA into the RRHOF in 2010? Benny's speech and Frid's too is great.

Hi J, yes I agree Dionne's version was better, but then it was one of those songs they wrote for someone else before themselves to sing it. That's what I think makes the difference on them. I feel that if all 3 of them had done it together all the way through, then it might have then been the better one, but this way sadly not. I felt the same way about, "More Than A Woman" with Tavares doing that one - even "Islands In The Stream" with Dolly and Kenny as well. But, they wrote them all - which is the main thing really - or else we would never have heard them in the first place would we? Their catalogue of music and songs is just so vast that we are all simply kind of lucky just to have been able to hear so many of them, I think . . . Imagine if Barbra Striesand had never got to sing, "A Woman In Love", or Diana Ross and "Chain Reaction" and so on . . . ? All were theirs naturally . . . Anyway, always enjoy whatever it is that you do like to listen to . . .

Both versions are great and bring different flavor to the song, but my sentiments are with Dionne's version, with no slight to the Bee Gees. Dionne's vocals radiate more intensity to the emotion of the lyrics. The lyrics themselves are more reflective of the emotions of a woman. Men have emotions too, but most heartbreakers I have known or heard of are generally men (of which sex I belong to). The lyrical talent of Barry Gibb nevertheless, is hard to top, bar none.

How strange, when I saw you were reacting to the Bee Gees singing Heart Breaker, I didn't expect THIS. I was not even aware of this 2001 version. Barry's demos are the originals with him sing the lead . With the Kenny rogers and barabra and Dione lps he produce he brought a finish product to them all they had to do was sing over his lead track. Have copies of all 3 and in most cases I prefer Barry's lead except woman in love lol sounded a little odd

Her version actually sounds more dated as it is heavy with the synth and that horrible '80s snare sample which so many producers used. She also added a lilt to the beat that made it her own. So even though some of her version I don't like, she did add a different style and of course a woman singing is going to be different than three guys but I do hear them singing backup.
