It is such a joy to watch these young brothers perform and realize again that they never could read or write music. On the second video I noticed that Maurice was watching Robin and Barry and never looked down at the piano. If they had learned to read and write music - by note, they might have missed much of their creativity and the unique way they could always read each other.

Holiday is the song that the Beegee's sang in the medley in the 1989 concert that you thought you hadn't reacted to. It is a pretty song. Robin's voice is so amazing. I am so glad that KZbin is presenting these old tunes from the 60's and 70's plus. It is sad that the songs now are not as appealing. Good reaction. Please forgive me, but I can't stop myself from letting out, what must have been developed over years and years. Not only the bros. Gibb suffered from being misunderstood or ignored by medias, also their real fans! I love their early stuff ( orchestral pop). Barry and his twin Mo said Robin was eccentric and one of kind. Barry said that after the train crash it brought out the pathos in Robins voice. Mo and Barry were waiting on Robin to return and all of a sudden Mo stood up and said he thinks something happened to Robin! He had an accident back in Australia he was on his bike and got hit by a car, he got pretty banged up. That is how he got his gold front tooth you see in the younger videos. Mo said he ended up with bruises in the same places as Robin, but they didn’t hurt on him. He said they were written up in some twin book about things like that ( happening to one and the other twin gets the same marks). Love your reaction. Have a great time next weekend😎

Mo said Robin was a genius and "They don't make them like Robin any more". Barry called him eccentric. No kidding!!! Barbara said he was always thinking. He was very deep and moody and vacillated from off the wall hilarious to somber and sullen. A friend said Robin was a law unto himself. He was always an accident waiting to happen. On his honeymoon, which was a disaster, he rented a chalet in Switzerland which turned out to be a remote shack. They were trapped when it was buried in a landslide. All they had to eat was a raw egg and a piece of cheese. He tried to go for help and was buried up to his neck in an avalanche. Fortunately someone found him and they had to use a truck and chain to pull him out. Meanwhile, Molly was sick the whole time. A typical Robin Gibb vacation! The crash was Nov '67 and this song Sept. '67. Rob was shy but loved performing so it must have been hard to be so public. His sister said people thought him unfriendly but he just had real difficulty communicating with others. He seemed pretty good expressing his feelings in lyrics. Maybe that was his safe place. She also said he couldn't talk without his hands.

Rick Rubin recently did an interview (I think on his podcast) with Barry and said that Robin had one of the best voices in the history of pop music. I wish Robin got out front more, I wish they shared more lead vocals as that was a source of friction between them. Great song, great interpretation Chad. Agree! : )

Janet B - Robin played piano, organ, mellotron, accordion, some guitar and also fooled around with the harp and cello. He just seldom played on stage. When they first started he would sometimes play piano, Mo on bass, Barry on guitar and dad Hugh on drums. I went to the grocery store before the game this afternoon. While I was out I listened to part of an interview with Paul McCartney on NPR (Fresh Air). It was so enjoyable. He talked about his writing process, and how John and he bounced things off each other, and knew when to add different lines. He says he preferred working on songs together. He talked about getting ideas from dreams. I was taken with what he was saying and how similar it sounded to Barry speaking about they way they all worked together. Then I grabbed some carryout and they were playing Andy singing "Shadow Dancing." What a day.

Robin was indeed an enigma. Remember that when he recorded this song he was 17 years old. I've always thought of Robin as a deep thinker, and I seem to recall Barry saying something similar. I think he was a very emotional person, and expressed those emotions deeply. He once said himself that he was quite shy as a youngster, and yet he was known to the Manchester police, as a child, as a budding arsonist. But I also remember something that Barry said once when asked how the brothere decided who sang what song. Often it was because one or the other was the principal author, but often it came down to which one sounded better singing lead on a song. Robin's voice did lend itself to the more melancholy songs, but he also sang more upbeat songs as well, like "Songbird" or "Come On Over" from the "Main Course" album.
@francisxray99003 жыл бұрын
'Songbird' isn't an upbeat song and it's Barry on leadvocals. On 'Come On Over', both of them had leadparts. But yes, Robin also sang great faster songs like 'Road To Alaska' or 'Juliet'. Anyway, most of their kinda rockin' songs were sung by big bros. Barry. On ballads, it's been a fifty/fifty thing between them and on many songs, they shared leads. For excample on 'Wouldn't I Be Someone', 'Run To Me' or 'I've Gotta Get A Message To You'.

I just got home from a very long day at work and got to hear your wonderful "Holiday" reaction. Thank you! One of my all time favorites from our guys. Robin's voice is just amazing as usual and I've always loved the orchestra conducted by the one and only Bill Shepherd, quite an amazing man himself. He conducted the Robert Stigwood Orchestra and did all their musical arrangements for all their early songs. Just wonderful! This song was released right before the train crash happened and bringing it up reminds me of the song he wrote right after the crash, "Really and Sincerely". It's a must for you to react to, Chad. I think you'll find him sing it at the 1971 concert that you used for the second reaction of "Holiday". I think that I requested it already but, if not, please add it for a future reaction. The emotion really pours out of him on this one and he rarely sang this song at a concert. In fact, I can't recollect any other concert performance of this beautiful and very haunting song.
