A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ KZbin. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of KZbin I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on KZbin won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This KZbin channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different

I'll echo what everyone else said- their 60s style was totally different and more cerebral than the disco, and that didn't come in until the latter 70s. Their best songs were in the 60s, to me. They had so many great songs like this. 'Words', 'I've Gotta Get a Message to You', 'Massachusetts', 'To Love Somebody', are a few! The Bee Gees Wonderland!

Heather Harmony I read an interview where Barry talked about how Robin brought the idea for “Message” into the studio. The others didn’t think it would work but Robin excitedly told them “It’s a love song.” He was right and it obviously worked for them. I love the way Robin’s mind worked; still trying to figure out many of his songs.

@@pretzel_cat Yes! I loved the way Robin Gibb's mind worked, too. Just another reason why I loved so many of The Bee Gees early songs. I love Robin so. He was such an important component among this trio of gifted brothers who made up The Bee Gees. A beautiful soul... a man sexily complex, cerebral, vulnerable, eccentric, sensitive, mysterious, insightful, creative, boyishly charming, expressive, spiritual, profound, and rare. He was a truly remarkable person and an artist with an utterly unique, heavenly, and irreplaceable voice! Rest in Peace.

Always loved this song. On Song Facts there is a heartbreaking story told by Robin-John Gibb (Robin's son): 'Robin Gibb's son played this song just after his father died from kidney failure on May 20, 2012. Robin-John Gibb told The Sun: "When he passed away we went out, they took the equipment away and we came back in. I picked up my phone and found 'I Started A Joke' on KZbin and played it. I put the phone on his chest and that was the first time I broke down. I knew that song and its lyrics were perfect for that moment. That song will always have new meaning to me now." '

@@rhondahandley9595 no Ma'am, you are incorrect, they began using the name Bee Gees in 1959 after their first band, The Rattlesnakes, originated in1955, disbanded in 1957 and it did not originally stand for the brothers Gibb. They got their name from speedway promoter and race car driver Bill Goode and a disc jockey named Bill Gates, from a local Brisbane radio station, who hired them to entertain the audience at the track. Both mens initials were Bs and Gs. They called them the BGs at first but later changed it to Bee Gees. From 1966 - 1969 they released 6 albums and 12 singles as the Bee Gees. Google them and you will see that what I said is factual info.

The Bee Gees have a 50 year career! Pick a decade, they have a song/ hit! This is one of my favorites with Robin singing lead. His version of Oh Darling is GOLD!!! Words, Run To Me, To Love Somebody, ( covered by Al Green , Michael Bolton ) Holiday, all gems...Mr. Natural, Songbird, Nights on Broadway, Love Me, Can't Keep A Good Man Down, omg I could go on forever! No, they started with ballads, some country tinged music, ( Come On Over covered by Olivia Newton John) and their sound changed over and over again! Disco is where they got the most attention , but they did, pop, adult contemporary, they wrote thousands of songs and fun fact wrote one of Barbra Streisand's MOST successful albums, Guilty.

I Started A Joke was written in 1968 and is considered Robin Gibb's signature song (note the vibrato vocal). Disco and funk appeared mid to late 1970s, so the Bee Gees had to change with the times if they wanted to keep an audience. The music the Bee Gees did before disco was often called Baroque pop, and a lot of those songs were tinged with hints of sadness and reflection. The Bee Gees during early days also tended to switch lead singing position of Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb. You can see this in "I've Gotta Get A Message to You", "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" and "Run To Me" staple songs from their pre-disco days, which are great. The transition period towards disco is best noted in their 1975 album, with songs like "Fanny Be Tender With My Love", "Nights on Broadway" and "Jive Talking".

The Bee Gers became popular in the US in about 1967 when I was in the 8th grade. Man,oh man did I love them. The New York Mining Disaster of 1941 was their first song I heard. Then Words, Massachusetts, I Started a Joke, Holiday, I've Got to Get a Message to You and the list goes on and on. Robin did most of the leads in the beginning. Sometimes him and Barry would take turns. Later Barry discovered that he could sing falsetto and began singing lead on most songs when disco came along in the 70's. People like to say that the Bee Gees had 3 separate careers. Really. They had a long string of hits in the 60's. Then we didn't hear from them again until the movie Saturday Night Fever came out and the Bee Gees were back. Then we had a few more years without them and after a few years they came back again. 😁 Those early songs from the 60's were so stirring and moving. The disco years were fun but Robin could sure bring a tear to your eye back in the 60's. Robin's son Robin John played I Started a Joke after his dad's funeral. He said something like No dad, you didn't start the world crying. It was sad.

Before 1970, Robin Gibb was the predominate singer in the group, and as time passed, it started having Barry become more the focal point. It's the main reason the group split up for close to two years. There was always an underlying sibling rivalry between Robin and Barry. Barry had the more marketable look, and better commercial sound. But Robin had the far more unique voice, which is why he was better suited for their earlier ballads. If you're looking for more songs to react to that are more Robin-focal, may I suggest "Bodyguard", "For Whom the Bell Tolls", or "This is Where I Came In" from their final album. His voice always is felt when listened to.

Ahh a Robin led song. His voice is one of a kind. I miss him so. Disco might have been their monetary peak, but their pre and post disco songs are also amazing. This is one of the former. Case in point. This Is Where I Came In is both the name and the self-titled track from their final album. It's great. Hint Hint. ;) Thank you for the reaction. I could listen to Robin all day.

"The Brothers Gibb" has a fascinating history which also included a younger brother, Andy Gibb, a fabulous solo artist, who died at 30 due to drugs. The four brothers were so incredibly talented! Now the twins are gone as well, leaving only Barry. Check him out on barrygibb.com, he's got a new album coming out with his great old stuff collaborating with various country artists. ❤

They've been singing together since the late 50s. Late 60s was the first time they hit it big. This is one of those songs. Robin featured prominently with hospital style. They broke up early 70s only to reunite with the funky and disco reinvention which took over the mid to late 70s. They ruled r and b and disco only to face backlash because they were too successful.

There is a KZbin video of Robins son R.J.Gibb singing "I started a joke", he sounds great so much like his father. This one was Robin's song with his nice vibratto. "I started a Joke" was from their early days around the 60's.along with "To love somebody",also" How can you mend a Broken heart". R.I.P. Robin Maurice and little brother Andy.

The Bee Gees has many many great songs before they went disco. In my opinion their early stuff was the best and had the best lyrics and vocals.

Second this! Easily my absolute favorite of theirs; can never listen to it just one time. And Nights on Broadway if he hasn’t heard that one yet. I see He liked Jive Talkin’ so Nights, with it’s funky bass, would be right up his alley too.

The Brothers Gibb (BGs) were a trio from Australia. Very popular when they were teenagers. They went to England and became more popular. This is how they started. Barry Gibb, the elder brother is also a supreme songwriter and has written many songs for other artists. The Kenny Rogers Dolly Parton duet "Islands In The Stream" was written by Barry Gibb! There is at least 50 years of exceptional music from them.

They were Manx, born on the Isle of Man, moved to Manchester and were English, not Australian. They moved to Australia and were there for less than a decade before returning to the UK..

If you like the r&b, funk, and soul feel in The Bee Gees disco era hits, here are a few earlier songs that show how that sound developed. - Mr Natural (1974): has a smooth r&b chorus that has a bit of a Temptations feel the more you listen. Plus this song’s instrumentals give me a hint of country too, which actually works really well and makes for an interesting blend. - Nights on Broadway (1975): funk sneaks into the bass line and Barry’s falsetto makes an early appearance. A fantastic song that manages to blend their classic early sound with funk-infused r&b. One of my top 2 Bee Gees songs. - Fanny (Be Tender With My Love) 1975: The other of my top 2 faves (actually this is #1 based on how often I listen to it on repeat). From the opening, this is a smooth groove that builds with layered vocals and falsetto harmonies throughout. The production here is absolutely perfect. Such a satisfying listen.

The Bee Gees started performing in ‘58 or ‘59. Barry didn’t even discover his falsetto until he was much older.

I was fortunate enough to listen to the Bee Gees before disco. Their best music was in my opinion before disco. Massachusetts, To Love Somebody, Gotta Get a Message To You, Too Much Heave, How Do You Mend A Broken Heart. Anything before disco they would have multiple titles in the top five regularly.

The Bee Gees made music from the late 1950s to early 2000s. Their disco music is just a small portion of their catalog although probably their most well known music. Definitely check out some of the later stuff from the 1980s to 2000s. Some good stuff there like Alone, You Win Again, This is Where I Came In, and the list goes on and on.
