@Leonie Gibb. I'm so Sorry for your loss. No other song could be so appropriated for that moment as this one. I've been loved The Bee Gees since I was a quite teenager (11- 12 years old). At that age (67/68), the song "Massachusetts" became to Brazil, my country. I'm almost 65 years old and I love "the brothers" more and more. Last satyrday I offerd the song "First of May" to a collegue at work, it was her Birthday. She has never heard about them before. Young people here don't know them, unfortunatly. God be with you. Pam Kurtz I sorta forget how important the brothers Gibb’s music was to our generation. I’m a huge Allman Bros, Dead, the Band, Nyro & Todd fan but the Bee Gees were also a huge influence. I’m 65 now & this song is just brilliant! I remember hearing Spics & Specs for the 1st time in my friend’s upstairs bedroom/music studio. He lived in a 1 room apt. above his folks house & it was our hangout. We played loud music, tried to be a band & tried to get laid there, which never happened, lol. It was also where we all learned how to roll a joint (& smoke em too!). It must have been 68, 69 or so. I graduated HS in ‘72, the year Congress stopped drafting young men for Vietnam.

My father always said that. I don't think he had a clue who the Bee Gee's was. But he always said we don't say goodbye, that means we won't see each other again. But he knew what it meant. I always respected that.listening to this song take me back losing my father this year. I didn't say good bye. I said was I love you daddy before he passed.once he did I held his hand and said we will see each other again.because we don't say goodbye. I love the Beegees. There's deep meaning behind this song that allowed me to grieve with dignity..I'm sure after losing his brothers and his parents, this song had even more personal meaning to Barry. I lost my uncle to Leukemia in 2005, He was 16.. I was just 8 at the time and I didn't fully understand what dying was at that age.. This was his favorite song. I can't quit remembering all the times we spent together when listening to this. How much better my life would have been if he was there.. I Hate cancer...😭😭

Just listened to the Celine Dion version for the first time in many years. It totally went over my head as a kid, but this is actually an incredible song. It works on multiple levels. On the surface, it's about someone leaving their lover to pursue a dream through which they will attain status, thus immortality. But it could also be a metaphor for meeting death and the road you "must follow" to go home, while keeping the memory of love alive throughout eternity. How love itself is immortal (or that love is ultimately God, love is the One immortal thing). I also picture a father leaving their young child. Yet the language itself is open ended enough that you could still attach a much more poetic, abstract meaning to it. Criminally underrated song.
