Hi Ladies! I love this tutorial and would just like to suggest that you complete your bee hive "skep" without loosening it from your form and then put it in the freezer for a few minutes. It will remove easily and leaving it attached while you work would help ease the movement during the process. HAPPY CRAFTING!!!

Real bees skeps are not covered with clay. They are covered with dung (Cow poop mixed with mud) They apply with hands or a trowl. The covering is to keep the light from entering the skep and it insulates inside the skep, I have many many of them for my cottage back yard. They are the size of a professional bee skep.

Is there a reason why you wouldn't just tie a knot in the loop and push the loop up through the skep... so the knot holds the loop? Yes you can use a dab of glue also, but the knot would give double holding power. It might make it more impervious to rain too, if that's an issue.

Great tutorial Misty & Sherry! You two make a great team. So nice to see you in the video Sherry. Once again you've both explained it very well and make it sound so easy. I will definitely try this one. I made carrots using the same technique & DT skipping ropes as the template (with parchment too!) and they do look like carrots. I love all your bee hives. Now I'll have to start looking for little bees to add to them. Its so nice to have a fun hobby to share with your mom. My mother & I loved going to yard sales. She got me started when I first got my car as I was her chauffeur. She passed away 3 yrs ago & now yard sales are not the same without her as my co-pilot. Thanks again for sharing your creativity. I LOVE the bee hive tutorial...thank you! So flippin cute! If you spray your bowl or WHATEVER "form" you use with cooking spray or rub it with any kind of oil.....it will come free of parchment paper and other materials and also keep you from having to use a razor to remove your glue! Too, too cute... just love them!!!! I'm such a nature lover so I will BEE making these! May I suggest 2 safe measures. Put the warning WORDS across the screen as a moving banner of what you're saying about how dangerous the hot glue is (burned myself bad years ago and it is not fun) just in case and also, definitely have REAL ALOE VERA PLANT or cream handy, should you burn yourself bad one bad. I live my plant. It's ready to grow, water it once a week (don't flood it though, just a good soaking without water sitting at bottom) and mine love the east morning light. It grows fast once it gets started so put it in a medium pot when starting a small one, so it has room to grow and you won't have to repot as much. Y'all did a great job!!! Plus, it's good to see a mother and daughter work well together to make something so pretty. Thank you for sharing. Blessings, L

These are really pretty the way you made your bee hive scape scene with pottery and other levels and added the bees made out of pom poms?? I have those silicone finger shields and I got mine at Hobby Lobby. They need to manufacture silicone ended tweazers that are large enough to hold things like rope together until you release the tweazers. Maybe you guys can get that idea done and sell them!

I love, love, love this DIY vid! Sometimes the hives formed without a permanent form/base will sag in time. I think humidity plays a major role with the sagging. Also, Amazon has a GREAT glue gun with precision tips and a stable base stand, the AdTech Pro80, and it costs only $14.30! Just today, I found your channel. Thanks for sharing!!!

Did you have to remove excess glue from the outside of the skep? I have glue everywhere!

Yes . In my first one I had a little glue showing , it is important to aim the glue and try to get it to the back of the rope . And to have the gun with the precision tip .
