It was my first time to attend the BEENET Conference and Techno-Fora last July 24 to 26, 2019, which was organized by the Beekeepers' Network Philippines Foundation, Inc. (BEENET).
On the 2nd day, July 25, 2019, a BEE GLOVES Competition was held at the Demo Farm of the Lipa Beekeepers Marketing Cooperative (LBMC) in Lipa CIty; and, I would say, it was such a fun-filled, albeit a bit scary activity for the faint-hearted.
I was told that the past few years, BEENET held BEE BEARD Competitions; and, this was the first time that a BEE GLOVES Competition was held.
Representatives from the three major regions - LUZON, VISAYAS and MINDANAO - were all so brave. I missed to ask how many times they got stung (if they ever counted, lol), but I was very jubilant as my fellow Ilocano, Mr. LEO KIMBUNGAN from the Benguet State University, won!
The BEES you see in this video are Apis Mellifera (honeybees). The queens of each colony were first put inside a cage, which the contestants held in their hands at the start of the competition. The bees then swarmed to their hands; but, for the representative from the Visayas Region, not even a handful did (sorry I missed to ask why).
Well, I hope you'll love this video for our 13th episode Kindly leave a comment and share to your friends who might also be interested with this kind of content.
Thanks again for watching and have a BEEautiful week ahead!
