Homie... His style was the equivalent of 'mumble rap' back then. "Record after record, rhyme after rhyme / always wanna know your zodiac sign." A ton of the early hip-hop records was just mfs not really saying shit. Not all of it was bad, but a lot of that shit was gabbage; it was the product of people not involved in the streets where Hip-Hop was born trying to produce dudes and make records who didn't even know you could make Hip-Hop records. Marley Marl will say the exact same thing. Mfs wasn't cutting up other records on tracks or sampling yet. Sampling didn't exist for your average dude until like '85 or so.

Even Busy Bee said in this video that after he finished performing, he did not expect to hear anyone "snap" on him. Why? Because at that time, battling (in its original context) was not about dissing your opponent. So I can understand why some might say that this was not a battle.
