Just finished with my Formic Pro treatment, and was relieved to see your video that the queen survived your Formic Pro treatment. I would like to a video to see what you do for spring maintenance on a over-winterized hive. Or maybe doing a set of videos with experimenting on going to single deep hives.

We appreciate the sharing inspection re: FormicPro. Also like to say thank for your recent participation at the North Carolina Beekeepers Association Summer conference in Hickory, NC! We enjoyed your workshops! I’d like to gain further education about the late summer swarm that occasionally occurs. There are so many thoughts about how to deal with the usually small swarm; do you keep it and try to get it winter ready, leave it be and it will flee, watch for Queen strength and/or lack of being strong. This scenario just happened to us here in Hickory, NC. The Queen appeared to be maybe an old Queen as she never did anything to propagate the colony. A video about this kind of event would be beneficial to all. Thanks again David!

Hi!!!! I love your videos but here are some of the my ideas about more videos: 1.video on the difference between Italian and Carnolian bees ( behavior, productivity....) . 2.Video what to feed bees if you want them to build a comb, what to feed them to enlarge population...... like receipt book :-) 3. Video how to store and protect your extra equipment. 4. Video on what plants/trees bees likes (include pictures) and what plants will give you more honey productions. Also where you can find information when plants/trees are blooming in your area. I have more ideas but for now this is my top 4 🙂

I am a newby beekeeper and really enjoy your videos. I have not had time to checkout to see all of your videos, but need to know more about gathering propolis. I am a nurse practitioner and there is very good research on the benefits if propolis use in humans. Thanks so much for doing these KZbin videos for people like me who are mostly just interested in saving the bees in a hostile environment.

Hi David👋 Thank you sooo very much for this video just so timely! I have been researching and researching every treatment for two weeks. This is our first year as bee keepers and i just dont want to do it though i know i have to! Formic Pro was at the front of my mind and you helped me alot. We are out of the historic awful heatwave here in New Jersey but i think we may have a few days near or in the 90’s beginning Thursday and we do not yet have our formic pro. We began with our Nuc in later June and boy did it grow exponentially WOW!! They were treated just before hand. No i have not tested yet i am as we speak cutting strong fly sticky strips to put on my bottom board. I know i know. I will do a sugar shake too. I just cant do alcohol. Oh i am viewing the hive right now and it’s beautiful!! We have had our girls under a very large umbrella. Others have commented that between the ground cover and umbrella our bees look like they are on vacation at the islands! Lol. I say far from it these poor girls are enduring harsh temps and still working very hard. I am going to wait for this weenkend to pass and feed the girls well. I do have two questions if anyone reading this may know. I keep trying to make sugar water jars for Our in hive feeder. I have been in and out of the hospital with a mess of issues that may be autoimmune related and am homebound currently. One recent development looks like a rheumatoid artritis hence my right hand is not good. Does anyone know where i can possibly buy already made jar lids with or/w the jars? Does anyone make them or could make me a couple of lids with the correct size holes? I have been giving the girls home made pollen patties ( just enough to comesume in one day each time) i also gave some fondant. Is it ok to give fondant occasionally during these hot dry times? They do not melt in the hive. I want them ( feel so bad) to be healthy as can be going into the formic pro treatment! I did read to expect to lose about the same number of bees that would naturally die in a day to the formic pro treatment. I watched a video and in it they found dead bees i do not know how many alot or a little but just that there were dead bees. I noticed the hive is in full sun. I would love to watch a video full of bee keepers mistakes so i dont have to feel so ugh dumb🤦‍♀️😂David, have you any videos from your beginning years at bee keeping? Would so much like to see the early years! Thank you again so much for your videos and your wealth of knowledge… i know so many of us would be lost without you!❤️

Mine too, double deeps (one hive died out completely by end of March AFTER starting to make cleansing flights, the other dwindled to nearly nothing in April), and it wasn't for lack of honey stores... here (Eastern Ontario) we're guessing the weather was just so wonky they just didn't spool up soon enough to sustain themselves, also may have had moisture issues as all the dead bees in the bottom were going moldy (and yes we were clearing the entrances all winter). They had kind of a high mite load by the time we got the honey supers off but couldn't find any after treatment...

Gosh, a subject for a future video... Shortly after I started with bees several years ago, I found you & binge watched your channel. I continue to learn from your incredible experience and knowledge, and I can't imagine there's any subject you haven't covered! Something I've been trying to decide and maybe a video would help with: locating my hives. I live out in the country surrounded by soy and corn fields. I placed my 8 hives several hundred feet apart along the unoccupied side of my property in the hopes that the micro environmental changes from one location to the next would help the hives. They all have a bit of shade in the summer, the creek for water when we have drought conditions, natural wind breaks for the winter, and a diverse variety of flowering plants to keep them in pollen and nectar nearly year round. A derth is hard to find here, bcs I'm able to leave the wild plants alone like a prairie for the bees, being out of town limits, and I have purposefully planted to cover the seasons. My thought was that I didn't know how my property was effected by micro-climates before placing my bees, and I didn't want my ignorance to cause then harm. I hoped that when the winter or summer was harsh, that the protection offered by one micro climate or another could keep a hive alive over the micro environments where others are placed, rather than find I had placed them all in an unknowingly horrid location. I did this early, early on before I knew any better? I wonder sometimes if I should move and place them all close together in one smaller area as I see KZbinrs do. All of this to say, my idea for a new video is: If I should move my established hives to all be closer together, why, when, and how are the best way(s) to do that to prevent robbing, lost bees, stressed colonies, etc.? (Is there a benefit for the bees or is it only for the convenience of the beekeeper?) Thanks!

Love that hive. Dave, I have a problem with larva cells busting open between the top and bottom super when doing my inspections. This makes the hive angry and not sure how to stop it. Could you please do a video explaining why this happens?

I love your channel, and excellent advice. The thing that I am most curious about is, what are the temperature differences between the brood chamber, and the super chamber, on average, if you know, and why is this so important? I’ve installed a temperature and hygrometer monitoring device inside my Lyson hive, and I keep track of the bees with Bluetooth monitoring on my phone, in part to alert me of a sudden change, if anything abnormal arises. Thank you again for your wonderful knowledge base, which is invaluable to all new beekeepers and experienced, alike. You are my favorite beekeeping channel on KZbin.

David, we love your videos! We are second year beekeepers and really need information on record keeping. This year, we had issues when harvesting honey. We had a ton of frames full on one side of the frame and brood on the other. I did not use an excluder hoping they would fill the super which keeps the queen out. I guess next year I will use the excluder. Thank you for all you do.

I wish I had had your advice 11 years ago when I started beekeeping. I’m a subscriber and I took your online bee course! I sure recommend your classes to all the new beeks I meet! I have such a problem with robbing in the fall. It’s so bad sometimes I don’t want to pull my supers! Each year it is a different pest from bald faced wasps, to yellow jacket! Also I would like to know more about the dynamics of moving bees on your own property without loosing foragers to the old location. How do they even know you moved them when they are inside the hive? How do they know to orientate and figure out they are somewhere new without loosing all the foragers? The same question with a fake swarm. I would think the act of swarming in and of itself would be the only way an old queen and 1/2 of the colony would feel like the did the actual swarming. Moving them to a box doesn’t give them that experience. Why would the queen and other bees stay in the new box at all? They don’t know they are all set to start over or do they? Thanks for all you do! I can’t tell you enough how much we appreciate your knowledge and experiences.

First year beekeeper in Tennesse here. I’d love to see a video on combining two colonies into a 10 frame deep with a divider between the two colonies. I’ve heard that you can add supers on top with a queen excluder and the bees will work together in putting food away in the supers without fighting. I’ve heard it’s been done, but haven’t seen it myself and would like to know the outcome as it is something I would like to try myself. You’re videos have been very educational in my beekeeping journey and I always enjoy watching them. Keep up the good work.

Hi David, I have an idea for a video... as urban and suburban beekeeping becomes more and more popular, I think it would be neat to see more of these setups. If you could do an interview (even virtually) with other beekeepers in these environments, this would give potential newcomers an idea of what to expect. Most of the youtube beekeeping community is rural and I think that leaves a lot questions for potential urbanite/suburbanite beekeepers who may be wondering about hive placement, swarm control, dealing with neighbors, navigating local ordinances, etc. Seeing how others have been successful in these conditions would give these folks a leg up!

All I use in my apirary are Anel hives... They also have a 10 year warranty ....I love that they lock together since we have hurricanes, and I dont need to worry about strapping them together...

Hey Dave, this was a real encouragement about Formic Pro and its safety for my bees, love my bees. I think a hive like this one you are giving away would really work great here in southwest Oregon. Would like to see a video on splitting hives. The specific arrangement of brood, honey, pollen , etc.. I have purchased some of you videos, but have not seen from you yet. I started with one hive this year and now have 4 hives. Purchased queen, split, and installed queen into 3 additional hives. Currently tried your bee feeding with pollen and the oils and amino acids on my 4 th hive. My bees have exploded this year in lower Michigan. I have gained a lot from your videos. Awesome hive giveaway.!!! Did you know that propolis takes the pain and swelling away from a sting. Stung in the nose and immediately added a Propolis Bandage, looked like a booger but it smelled heavenly.

Dave your great! Thanks for all your fun hard work. I do know what goes into making all the video you put-up. I live in not so cold country 30 mins. N of the Golden Gate Bridge. I understand others live where it gets a lot colder. I see others a making a comment on keeping your bees warm for the winter and I would like to see more of that too, maybe you can address different regions. I did see your show about wrapping up the bees for winter using an old insulation scrap. This is only my 3rd year and the past two years I did lose my bee's over the winter. Mites? Cold? Other? unknown" Most of the time it is around 60* in the winter, it can drop to freezing, but not to many of those days. I am a seamstress by trade and specialize in Sunbrella. In the show where you where using the insulation wrap, it gave me an idea to make a cover out of Sunbrella where you can put the insulation inside the Sunbrella case~Add Velcro ties to keep it stable around the boxes. Could it get to warm? Another show idea: ~ Could there be a difference between the wild bees and the ones we buy? Are they stronger? Do they not die off as easy? Are the ones we buy have to much interbreeding? Thanks you again for your work. Joy

Just used Formic Pro this week on a hive that higher mite count than I was expecting. They are my aggressive hive - so if queen dies I’m not gonna cry too much. I have a queen in order from local beekeeper just in case it need one this year. The Anel hive was very interesting! Love seeing new equipment like that. This is my 2nd year of beekeeping - 1st year for having a honey harvest. What about a video of options for storing frames over the winter safely. I bought a Hive Butler but little expensive to have a bunch of them for backyard beekeeper - also video about how to weigh your hives to know if they have enough resources for winter. Wow! That hive is so cool! I would absolutely love to try one of those yellow plastic hives in one of my apiaries. Just beautiful. Thank you for the Formic Pro talk. I just used Formic Pro in two of my colonies exceeding threshold levels only 20 days ago. These were big colonies, minimum of 7 frames of brood and more workers than I can count! I'm shocked! Today I did an alcohol wash on both of those colonies and I had zero mites in one colony and only 1 mite in the other. The great thing is, both queens are alive and well and laying very well. I've never seen anything like this! I haven used Formic acid since 2015 (mite away quick strips) with major losses. I'm very happy with the results. Would you be kind enough to to show us how to wire wax foundation. I'd also love to hear a discussion about honey bee communication, via foundation and also the accumulations of chemicals like Cumafos and Fluvalonate in wax. Maybe talk about a comparison between wax foundation and plastic. Which do you think is better and why? Thanks David. Great learning experience.

Often heard FP causes queen/brood issues. Pretty cool seeing your results. Your videos have helped many times. Things are a little different here in hot SC but fundamentally need the same things

A video on bee escapes and fume boards would be interesting. I had a cheaper bee escape that came with my hive and it did not work at all. May have been my rookie status that affected my results. I made a fume board and went that method for now. A good video on evacuating bees from the supers with your experience would help us all. Also on side note. I used a drone comb in my hive based on your advice. I was very surprised at the number of mites found in the 6 cells I inspected before freezing it. I found 8 mites in 6 cells. So I had a real problem and currently in week two of my Formic treatment. Your videos on these two subjects helped me through the use of these items.

Loved the Formic pro follow up, as a new beekeeper this year, I am testing my 2 colonies today. I would love to see tips and tricks on getting my bees ready for winter here in the north east, NY state specifically. Winning this hive would be very helpful as I continue to grow as a new beekeeper. My wife and I watch your videos every week. Thanks for another great video. I wouldn’t mind seeing a discussion of an annual beekeeping calendar. It would obviously have to be adjusted for your actual location, but items like: best times to mite treat, watch for swarming, expected nectar flow, when to add supers, etc. Meant to be “big picture” skeleton that would then be modified by the individual beekeeper.

Used MAQS last season between summer flow and goldenrod, along with OAV in November and had 100% over wintered success with this formula. Moved to Formic Pro this summer. Can't wait to get into the hives.
