Hello David, Do you have Bee biology books you would recommend? Thank you

I definitely don’t ignore my bees! I check on them probably too much! I upload my Broodminder data that tells me how many frames of brood are present, how heavy the hive is, the brood temperature, and more. I also scan them with my FLIR camera and check on their food every week to replace their Hivealive fondant if needed.

Do bees store any of the winter bee kind. Central Indiana. I like feeding my bees through winter. Hives are packed full of bees. Just wondering.

David, what’s your thoughts on bees increasing brood laying when feeding protein powder this time of year? We have been getting mid 50’s here for the last few days and they are absolutely working the protein powder like crazy.

I have a list of things to work on. Getting in better shape is at the top of the list. Before getting into bee keeping I watch a lot of videos, and did a lot of research........but no one said anything about being in good shape! In all honesty hive tool, and smoker manipulation is @ the top of the list. Great video David!

I live in South Carolina and this week a wrapped my hives with heavy blankets with a small entry space and will remove in March. Put a sugar/candy board on the tops of my hives to feed them through the winter months.

Yeah, some ppl can sell you swamp land in Arizona or maybe a beekeepers hive in Arizona. LOL I live in Arizona. I came from California. Lived in the farm land. We had lots of orchards surrounding our house. The neighbor had 99 hives. I had bees floating around me like little fairies. They never bothered me unless I had a can of coke. So I made sure to get a cup for my beverages and avoid accidentally eating a bee. I’ve wanted a bee hive for several years. Arizona has the issue of killer (African hybrid) bees taking over hives. I have to learn about that too. It’s a serious thing here.

I have 4 years on ya. I just started beekeeping and love it! I think keeping me young. Got brave and did a fall bee rescue. Bees built on outside of tree. Not even a crevice. Freezing night, robbed out. Saved by feeding, good hive and your feeder board, thanks! Doing absolutely marvelous but going into winter. They have lots of honey.

Dave I am here in San Antonio 22nd of November the days highs are getting in the mid 70’s my bees are still pulling in pollen. I am amazed at this but will they continue this thru the rest of the year? I don’t know what kind of pollen they are bringing in.

Hey David maybe you’ll find my question later!! as I was listening to you answering questions, One explain that his bees moved up and his bottom box was empty comb. I am wondering and here’s my question, do we now remove that bottom box to get the space smaller as were told to do in the winter time. I am a new beek. This is my first winter and I’m hoping for one more warm day because I think I have an empty bottom box and I’ve been told to remove it to minimize the space.

2 alternatives i have heard of to replace smoke also are a cool, gentle blower. It looks like a small hair dryer and is used in traditional Japanese beekeeping. There was a story I read somewhere that recommended spraying them with a syrup mixture when extracting hives. They will survive a fall to the ground and be do drunk on sugar by the time they have liberated their wings, that they will leave you alone.

wax moth were bad this year, weaker colonies didn't make it. My OG colony with the beast queen did phenomenal. Surprisingly did not see ONE SHB this year, Im in West Texas. Not saying they weren't there, just didn't see any and didn't see any damage in my hives. I think I know what happened to me weaker colonies tho, the OG colony is VERY well stocked and I think they robbed out the smaller colonies/hives. the og hive is beast of a colony. I can guarantee Ill need to split them come spring time.

Wasp-apocalypse happened in a lot fo north and north-western states. Abnormal summer conditions created higher than normal populations and bird migrations were delayed meaning that wasps that were kicked out (when the queens went into hibernation) had fewer birds to pick them off. I was emptying 2 gallons of dead wasps per day at the height of it, I was still seeing ocassional wasps as late as last week. I've been paranoid, looking for them every day. They killed two very strong hives with hive gates for me this year. Multiple hives lost in my area by BEEKs reporting the same abnormally high wasp activity.

Mites, mites, mites. Treat every hive no matter what. Feed. Put fondant on top of the frames in the winter

Had one hive die in Oct. It was absolutely my failure. Wrongly decided they were superceding and I believe they actually swarmed. Then, the queen failed to mate. I failed to take all the actions needed until it was to late. Failure provides opportunity to learn because it's only a failure if one doesn't learn.

Where are the bees? How come none are flying around even to see what's going on?

For me this year? Yellow jackets robbed my hives and I failed to see the lack of pollen and the hive beetle took over. It was a mess. My health wasn’t great and I barely was in the hives in the late summer. Been too broke to feed the hives a lot of them absconded from the hive beetle infestation. Bees will make you broke in a heartbeat lol. Is there a really good way of notating what you do in hives that’s organized? Especially if you have a lot of colonies.
@atlas42254 күн бұрын
I missed the live video but my colony count more than doubled this year. I surrered a recent 3 month drought and had such issues. That said, i had queens both old and young and even with old queen failure/bee keeper neglect i stand at 2x my speing count. So.e of my success is due to your content. Ty! I agree with you on SMB, to aome effect. I think your undervalued the threat of SHB and the speed at which bees will abscond.
