Welcome back to Bohemia Bees, your go-to channel for all things beekeeping! 🐝 In today's video, we're delving into one of our favorite hive components: the Screened Inner Cover. While traditional solid inner covers have long been the norm in beekeeping, we've discovered that they just don't cut it when it comes to maximizing the health and productivity of our buzzing friends.
Join us as we explore the myriad benefits of the Screened Inner Cover and why it's become an invaluable tool in our apiary. From improved airflow to facilitating quick inspections, this component offers a host of advantages that traditional covers simply can't match. Say goodbye to moisture buildup and hello to happier, healthier bees!
But that's not all - we'll also dive into some lesser-known perks of incorporating a Screened Inner Cover into your hive setup, including enhanced ventilation during hot weather and reduced condensation in colder climates, and even doubles as a propolis trap. Trust us, once you make the switch, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

It's important to recognize that beekeeping methodologies can diverge based on the local milieu, and the videos showcased on the Bohemia Apiary channel spotlight strategies tailored to Jason's specific bee colonies, rather than offering universal directives. While the principles addressed in these videos garner general approval from numerous beekeepers, it's equally imperative to lend an ear, make observations, and glean knowledge from your own bees as well as other beekeeping resources.
In Jason's own words, "Beekeeping is more than a hobbee, it's an obsession."

I like the idea of the screened inner cover. Double screen dividers are also useful as screened covers for ventilation and confining bees when necessary.

Thanks for making this video. When most folks hear screen inner cover they are only thinking it is for ventilation. 👍

I noticed the propolis on my screened inner covers but never thought of it as a propolis trap! Very interesting

We sometimes use a little heat and the propolis just melts right off any screens we have.

So if they propolis the screen it's because they don't want that open I will think. If it's propolise u won't be able to see the bees when taking cover off.

Great point but this one is a very extreme example. We left it on the same hive for 2-3 years and never cleared it. So it built up. Typically they only put 20-30% propolis or around rim. But technically you would be right in that they are always building that propolis envelope around their nest. On all sides.
