Feed if you want to feed, don't if you don't. Treat if you want to treat or don't. Beekeeping is personal don't let anyone convince you "their way" is "the way." Build your own way of beekeeping they are your bees after all. In so many cases Small in Fall means Dead in Winter, just the nature of it when it comes to bees and Winter. Some things about beekeeping require difficult choices. We make them or Nature does. That is the best thing about beekeeping they are your bees so you get to keep them your way. I use Fall to show me my culls and combines for Winter. If I lived back your directing I'd get ready for a Record Book Winter. From what I've seen on Winter weather models you all might get a big one. Ty for sharing your time you two.👍

Question on "absconding?" As an 'intuitional' self defense measure. Bees absconding late in season could be a self defense response. Have 'Post' absconded hives been checked for dead V mites? Timing is of course critical but mite "know" when to move into cells. Why can't bees know when to move out?? They seem to 'know" brood presence and some seem to know infected brood. Just a question.

I'm not on board with your theory of an 80% loss and I feed if light on stores and use OAV in the fall usually two apps at Thanksgiving. I saw bald brood and gave the bees one shot of OAV in early Oct to drop mites as a prophylactic treatment.. I'm sure your bottom board is real nice as you are a gr8 person.

To me if you do the live and let die , it should be about everything. That means no feeding .

@@RiceDriedger that’s the same concept of having Bees and not trying to keep the parasites off of them. If you have chickens or ducks or dogs or cats, do you treat their parasites or you just let them die. Same concept

Last year I had 2 huge booming double deeps colonies & 1 smaller single deep going into winter , all from a reputable VSH breeder, come spring all 3 dead from mites.....took me literally less than 5 min to lift the lid & spray the OA sugar water on 7 colonies this year....JUST DO IT, ull be happy in the spring

I took very small amount of OA & sugar water in a spray bottle , shot a Lil between the frames, next morning hundreds of dead mites piled at entrance behind reducer...was insane..I hate treatments too & did not want to do it, & i literally just did it on october 6th, so ya im late, but out of 7 hives only had 1 with zero mites & that was a swarm I caught in mid may.. after seeing all those dead mites they atleast have a chance!! Who wants to go into spring with no bees?? Been there done that! & I'm in Northern Ohio by the way...

Shouldn't you be seeing a lot of 'fat bees' in the brood about now? (Bees do rebuild brood in winter as needed.) Mid Oct in Mi you might be seeing frosts and flea bane (asters) dying off and failing goldenrod. Fat bees are the over winter stock you should be looking at and brooding surge is irregular. My bees jump on the Golden rod when it flows. I don't think it is bad for the bees if all else is normal. ( Yeah I know 'what is normal for bees' that weather does not influence?) They have been hitting the goldenrod and flea bane longer than we've been bee keeping>? Just a question. In the meantime in Oct 24 I had two empty boxes jump to life in the last two days. A swarm Friday 10/18/24 and another 10/19/24 a Saturday. We have only begun to find experience from the bees! They are nonchalant and have no idea what they put us through.

Another bites the dust! Really, I am disappointed that you guy's don't wanna help them at all! Every time you change the Queen you have a new beginning, its not like they can adapt with experience, live cycle is to short! Otherwise I love your videos.
