Looking good Bruce. That tray makes it a lot easier to see a queen. You know I've only been in two hives since you and I talked and that was to remove the two honey boxes that I was waiting for some brood to emerge from. 👍

Keep COOL Bruce!! We ain't young no more my friend! Seems like the 52 mite hive definitely showed their weakness with that load and then breaking the load back down shows how they're bouncing back. The other night at a meeting I was reminded that pulling strips on-time helps prevent mite resistivity. With the sub-lethal dose of amitraz, if we leave them in longer and the strength of the amitraz is down, well, we end up exposing the mite to low doses and we're basically vaccinating them against future doses. I like your results. good stuff.

Yeah I hear ya on that. I pretty much got them out in time. Maybe a week late for the later ones. I think I ended up re-queening some of the weaker ones. And I am in the process of feeding them to replace stores. I can’t believe how low some of them were. That yard has been amazing all year but took a bad turn. I actually pulled some splits and re-queened the weak ones and am going to watch them close. Hopefully will get them through and have a nice year in 2025!

Hello Bruce what good looking colony’s. You talking seeing a few drones . I had a odd thing yesterday on Sep 9 th here in NC I was doing so inspection on a few colonies in a new bee yard I added late summer. On the top box where I had put on my feeder shims the bees were building drone comb an it was full of eggs . I said what the crap is going on here . Well I took it all out . Congratulations on your season this year . Thanks for taking us along. Thanks

Anytime you want to shovel some of that heat down to the southern hemisphere go right ahead 😅 I think the weather fairy's have been spending to much time at the pub lately. For the prior six days weve had clear skys, 18 Celsius/64 F, the fruit tree blossom on apricots is out, peaches are almost out, willows are growing pollen catkins so i thought awesome, I'll reverse my brood boxes. The weather fairy's woke up with a hangover and everyone in the mountains of central Otago must pay😂 we have snow, sleet, and rain because of a southerly Antarctic storm which changed course during the night 😳 we now have 4 Celsius/39 F, snowing like crazy up the hill and bucketing rain down here. Fresh pollen sub dropping in the freezing rain for me😂 but it was great to catch you guys at lunchtime on castlehives live

@@brucesbees we now have three inches of snow on the ground 🥶😅 extra feed and pollen subs on the hives yesterday so it's a case of wait and see, it could be rough for the orchards though because it's wet snow and it'll strip flowers off trees

About a 90% mite kill. That is awesome Bruce. That heat is brutal in a bee jacket. Take care and take some short breaks in the AC of the pickup like I do.

Careful with those buckets. Looks the ones from Lowes or anoth store. I had some stacked 2 high and the bottom split on the bottom buckets and ended up on the floor.

Speaking of that Grub-X , first time I've used it and it's been a game changer this year I kid you not. I haven't put beetle traps in my hives this year and I hardly see one if any, it's been that big of difference.

Hey that’s good to hear. I have also had positive results this year whether from Grub Ex or not. Have seen some beetles and even had a few slime outs but nothing like usual.

Hello Bruce… I’m the guy that set next to you on the bus on the first day of the Expo. Reaching out to you concerning a situation I am in. My neighbor sprayed for insects and he has successfully killed half my hives. Did he do this on purpose… most likely. But I’m moving forward. Should I destroy the brood foundation on the poisoned hives? Any information is appreciated.
@brucesbees
@brucesbees Ай бұрын
Hmm. That is a good question. Did you find a lot of dead bees or did they abscond? As far as the frames go if the bees were poisoned they probably never had a chance to actually spread it into the wax or frames. So they may be ok. But if in doubt it might be best to replace them. Not sure if this helps.

Whats your go to foundation? I need to purchase a lot of plastic wax coated foundation this winter and would appreciate some advice on what to get.
@brucesbees
@brucesbees 2 ай бұрын
Most of mine is Pierco one piece plastic frames (triple waxed). Or Premiere foundation (Pura Frames). The heavier the wax the better.
@brucesbees
@brucesbees 2 ай бұрын
Honestly I don’t think the brand matters as much as the amount of wax on the frames.
