You could wrap the hive that's inside the coop with fiberglass insulation to help them hold heat in the hive.

Maybe you could use some of those varroa sponges. Or if your OA vaporizer has a small enough exit it could fit right into that entrance

If it snows 2 or 3 feet, won't it cover the opening in the chicken coop? The bees will need you to make sure to shovel the snow.

That happens around all the hives no matter where they are but I’ll go down and dig them out.

What was the approximate temperature outside when you did this move? Looks like they were willing to come outside a little, was it in the mid-40's or colder? I'm trying to get a feel for how bees are going to behave depending on the temperature. So close to 100k, you'll be there for sure by this weekend if not by Thanksgiving.

Yes, 40 ish but today in the upper 50s and all hives flying.

You mentioned on this video that you could not treat for varroa mites. I totally disagree with you in this point. I would be treating them right now with formic acid. It is a natural mite control for bee keepers to use. It will also kill mites in the brood chamber. It will also not effect the honey. I also think you can make an insulation box that will help keep out the cold but, still provide ventilation. I think you could do a quick video on both of these. I would put 2 strips of FORMICPRO and leave them in till spring.

I’ve used Formic Pro for years and I recently made a video on how to use Formic Pro. My temps have been too cool for the Label plus the label is for vertical hives not horizontal, so not sure how the gases would transfer around in this circle hive.

Who knows, maybe that crazy hive will survive! You mentioned not being able to treat for mites on that hive. Maybe try apiguard and just put it on the one (back) side. I bet the fumes would get through the colony and the bees will remove the thymol and bring through the nest and knock down mites. Obviously too late this year. Oxalic would work as a winter treatment possibly.

My question has nothing to do with your video. I live in town. There’s a shop directly behind my yard that runs 2 outside very bright LED lights all night long. I want to get started keeping bees this spring will the lights mess up my hives it will be shining directly toward the boxes about 50’ away

Generally, bees know to stay inside. But, we have the same issue where we have some hives and I'll find several dead bees under the lights the next day. You'll just have to wait, try it and see.
