I recently made a video showing an easy way to make splits.
BEEKEEPING - SPLITTING BEEHIVES the QUICK & EASY Way • BEEKEEPING - SPLITTING...
In this video I show how I introduced the mated queens. We had a delay in getting the queens so it was a little more complicated than I originally thought but I think it will all work out ok.
Correction: Video was actually taken May 25, 2019 (not May 26 like it says at the beginning of the video)
ENJOY!!!

I like the way they bank or queen cells. And hopefully they will except that queen and you will have another productive hive well on his way. Thanks for sharing.

love the video! one thing you might try is when open box up...use hive tool to separate frames all at one time. Helps you not have to reach for hive tool for every frame you pull frames ...saving time of having box open. :)

There is a good chance that the bees will still kill the queen even if they don’t have cells they are stubborn sob. I love keeping bees but they sometimes have very different plans from the beekeepers. I would suggest you don’t use emergency queen cells in general since the bees don’t feed as long making them inferior. I would highly recommend making some cells or find a cells builder near you who always has them.

Great video! With your interchangeable bottom boards and outer covers do you notice the bees building comb to fill in the space? I’m looking to change my equipment. Thanks

Yes they do that some but it is easy to remove the excess wax. I really like these nuc boxes and lids/bottoms. They work very well. I need to do a video on them one of these days soon.

Hello, in my experience to have almost 100% aceptance is better to eliminate the existing queen cells the day before introduction of the new mated queen. Cheers

I went and checked them this morning. None of the queens had been released but the bees were working on removing the candy. The bees seemed very calm and I went ahead and released the queens. I did not notice any aggressive behavior as the queens walked between the frames. I think they are going to work out well. Thanks again for watching Jorge!

We are educating ourselves on Queen Rearing. How long can you bank Queens for? These are Mated Queens I'm assuming?
@brucesbees
@brucesbees 5 жыл бұрын
Yes mated queens. I think they will survive for quite awhile. I have heard that queen rearing companies will bank them for a week or two.

I am sure and need to develop that skill. I raise a few of my own from swarm cells and walk away splits etc but would like to ramp it up. Have had pretty good success overall buying from different reputable queen breeders. I do like to diversify my genetics as well. Has worked pretty well for me so far.

Typically we put them in the nucleus hives and the bees release her in two or three days. In this case I released these queens a couple of days later. They were in the mail for a couple of days before I got them.

If banked properly they can live in the cages for quite awhile but the sooner they can get into their new hives the better.

Arjan Idrizi I have never tried that. Would make me a little nervous. I feel like it is important for new bees to be produced even during honey season. Otherwise I feel like the hive will crash. But if the queen is in a hive in one of these cages the queen should survive for quite awhile because the bees will continue to feed her through the cage. Personally though I would not cage her because I don’t want to risk losing the hive. If you decide to try this let me know how it goes.

I have produced a few queens, mostly from walk away splits and swarm cells etc but have not been able to get into queen rearing on a major scale yet. I have bought queens from various reputable queen breeders and most have done well, but I do need to do more of my own. There would be a good market for local queens around here if I could get good at it.
