I keep bees. Let, me tell you those bee suits are hot! The key to keeping your bees calm is to be calm yourself. That's hard to do when it's 95 in the shade and closer to 100 inside a bee suit. I always tend my bees in nothing more than jeans, t-shirt and veil. In only use the veil to keep them from buzzing my eye, that's very distracting.

Dave have you ever seen the bees bite the queens? I tried to introduce a young mated queen into a queenless nuc today and it appeared they were accepting her but I was concerned about them crawling over her. Then I saw what looked like one that had its mouthparts on her leg like it was trying to bite her. I left her in a roller cage and will check on it tomorrow. Hopefully they will take it. This was a walk away split that failed. The queen cell they raised must have failed and they have been without a queen for over a month.
@drumgerry6 жыл бұрын
Introducing her to a nuc sized colony was/is always a good idea. A delayed release system might have been better if that was a full sized colony. For beginners if you get a new queen make a nuc up to receive her (and use delayed release as a failsafe) and then if you need to requeen a full colony unite the nuc to it over newspaper (having first removed the old queen of course).

Depends on the hive. Mine are super docile, I hardly smoke them at all to work them, I can replace their feed no smoke, no protection. An agressive hive may attack from across the yard, though. That hive should have had it's queen destroyed and a docile queen introduced.

i’m surprised i can even watch these videos. i’m fascinated by them, but i’ve been extremely terrified of bees since childhood cause of a bad experience. i still flinch when i hear them buzz loudly into the mic, but these videos have helped me understand them better and not be so afraid of them :)

I wouldn't make it as a beekeeper I'd panic and run when a single bee touched me

I released a queen yesterday after 3 days in a push in cage and they acted like this on the wire.. easy to push off.. no stinging. When i released she ran all over and never submitted. Should i try again and just see how they react after a little while?

Update they balled her and she flew off. Back to square one.
