Clover is also good for your lawn for a couple of reasons. First, it fixes nitrogen in the soil reducing the need for fertilization. Second, the perfect lawn is an ecological desert - monoculture. Clover adds a bit of diversity to the lawn, makingg it a more hospitable habitat for a variety of flora and fauna. It is also attractive. White clover does not grow very high and blends into the grass creating a nice look. My lawn is a mic of grass and white clover. I also have yellow clover planted in some non-lawn areas, it is a great forage crop for bees in late spring.

Thanks for watching; and thanks so much for the kind words! The amount of interest has definitely increased since 2009 when I started beekeeping and 2017 when I posted my first video. How long have you been keeping bees and what sort of videos are you interested in seeing?

@@DougtheBeeGuy - I got my first package and a nuc in 2017. I’m now up to 17 hives. Having a blast. The bee’s are my zen. 😄 This is my first year really trying to grow my apiary. Would love to see some videos on splits and perhaps growing new queen cells. Thanks for all you do! Your videos are always down to earth and very informative. Thanks again. 🐝😎

Hi Doug. I am a new bee keeper but have been studing and taking classes for about 2yr. I love watching all you videos and have learned alot. I just saw above where you have a kettle corn business so I immediatly went to it and ordered a bag as it is my favorite. I was wondering if you have time to answer my question. If not, I understand you are busy: So I have a friend who caught a swarm for me at his deer lease and brought it home to me. I left the box up for about a week, with the queen excluder on. After that, I moved them into their new brood box I had waiting for them. I noticed that 3/5 frames comb was damaged and some SHB. It wasn't until they absconded 3 days later did I do a good inspection and that is when I really realized how bad the combs were with SHB. Needless to say I caught the hive back when I hung the swarm box right up. This time I had 5 new frames with heavy waxing on the foundation. Fast forward 2 weeks. I gave them 2 weeks in this box and Sunday morning I moved them over to the deep brood. I noticed that after 2 weeks they had only pollen and nectar on 1 side of 1 frame. There were no eggs or capped brood. My bee mentor suggested taking one of his good drawn combs that he just took honey from, and place in the middle of the box to see if my queen will lay, so I did. He said we will check it in 4 days (Thursday) to see if she has laid, and if not I should re-queen then, but at least give her a chanc with the new comb. So, my question is, what do you think? Should I give her till Thursday or should I re-queen asap?

Do you think our flow is over?
@DougtheBeeGuy3 жыл бұрын
No we have pretty much a continuous flow from mid April to September. A small dirth at the end of August for a week or two before the golden rod and asters hit. Right now the clovers are all blooming, catalpa, vetch, daisies. Then all of the thistle.
