I did the same experiment and bees preferred the sugar water here in KY.

I did the same experiment here in Maine. At first the bees were going after the sugar water and didn’t pay much attention to the plateful of pollen powder. But 24 hours later, the honeybees swarmed the pollen plate and emptied it. I was stunned to see how fast they devoured it. It was such fun to watch. Thank you David for your video.

Hey David nice video from NE WI.I open feed also doesn't take long and the bee's are all over it.Temp outside is 50deg when they find the sugar water.I also feed last years honey 100 yards away and I use the entrance feeders sitting on a board.This morning it's 26deg out and the bee's are flying some already.Thanks for all the hard work you do for us.

David, you're lucky not to get stung being barefoot. It was 32 degrees here this morning - very light frost and got up to 52 today - lots of cool breezy SW wind. Most of the bees are staying home today. First frost this fall season. Will be feeding bees tomorrow with top hive Burn's system.

I know, bees were all over the grown and I just had my biker shorts on. Bees are pretty occupied though when they are feeding like that. Boy I stepped on a ton of bees growing up barefooted.

Hey David I have a question can you show us how to make candy boards with your feeding additives
@beekАй бұрын
You have to be a really good candy maker/cook to get it to turn out right. Sometimes it comes down to the type of heat such as gas vs. electric and room temp and humidity and also elevation. Even when we make them, we adjust mixtures based on the temp and humidity in the room. It's crazy sometimes getting it right. Since ours are made in large batches, it wouldn't be too helpful, and it's always different depending on the heat and things. But I'll see if I can try and work a video in possible.

David, I have a question regarding: Varroxsan - A Cardboard Oxalic Acid Strip. What are thoughts on using this treatment for Varro Mites?

Started this year, so haven't tested the results yet, but easy to install, minus having to wear all the PPE

Help! I just lost a seemingly healthy hive, 2 deeps brood and honey and a super 70 % capped honey. Been maybe 2 weeks since I went in to the hive. It is empty! Not a single bee or a single drop of honey. I dont even see dead bees, they are gone , vanished without a trace. What the hell happened? Can't find a similar scenario anywhere on the internet.
@beekАй бұрын
Sounds like they up and absconded. However, since it is empty it might be that the colony was robbed out, and it's not uncommon when a colony is robbed that it is destroyed and the colony goes back to the robbing hive.
@pickettmandiАй бұрын
@beek Thanks David, second year beekeeper. Some parts of the honey comb i could tell was robbed but overall it looked like a small proportion. I was shocked to see it totally empty. Big fan of yours. Thanks again.

Are you saying the hive that got robbed goes and joins the robbing hive if so i did not know that. Wow!@@beek

@beek I'm sorry just to clarify, the bees that were robbed will follow the robbers back to their colony?
