Thank you 🙏! We hope to have installing the cells out tomorrow. It’s supposed to rain so it may be difficult to film, but we are going to do our best.

Thank you! I hope they are populous lol. It’s still a little early, but we are giving it a shot. A lot of splits to make to meet the goal of the series.

Took me a couple minutes to realize with the accent the difference between drawn comb and drone comb. Good video, well explained.

Hi Craig. Great video series; thank you. My question is why couldn't we have combined the hives right away when they were discovered to be queen less and split off that later when the new queen cells hatched? Thanks again!
@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 Жыл бұрын
It was a drone laying queen! The colonies could have probably been combined successfully without issue. However for the series, we are trying to show how to it would be if someone only had two colonies. Basically just didn’t want to risk the loss of the queen in the good hive due to some rogue bees from the other. Not saying it would have been a problem, just a safer bet to keep them apart. I hope this makes sense

Thanks Craig! I can't wait to get started. It was warm today but the forecast is looking like highs in the 40s and low 50s with lows in the 20s and 30s for the next couple of weeks.

Yea that sounds a little chilly to start things up. We are crossing our fingers it stays warm and we have enough drones flying for this first round of splits. It’s still a little early for us also.

I went back into both of my yards today and one yard the colony has LOTS of drones and the other yard maybe three miles away there was very very few drones in them . I thought that was odd but I guess it just shows how different each yard can be . Thanks for the update. THANKS

Hey Kathy! We are seeing the same thing in our yards. It won’t be long and it will all even out. Thanks for the info on the drone situation at your place.

As always Craig great video! We made 11 splits 2 weeks ago and the day after we made splits we put cells in them! We went in them a few days ago to make sure that they all emerged and 6 of the 10 had beautiful queen cells and no queen running around so they obviously killed the queen from the cell we put in there when she emerged🤦♀️😩🤷♀️. Not sure what we did wrong I just dont think there any way that we missed that many queen cells evidently the day we made the splits they went to making cells right away and they were not built up enough that we’d have send them the next day? But it’s all good they should all have queens when the cells hatch that they made🤣so we just ended up making walk away splits anyway🤣🤣Craig thanks again so much for all your help!! God Bless buddy and looking forward to the next video!! 💞💕

Glad it’s working out for you. Just keep at it and the more you do the more it will all make sense. We truly appreciate the kind words and communication. Keep us updated on your bees this year. God Bless and Happy Beekeeping

Do you make splits with less than 2 frames of brood and one food? Will you be building up all four colonies at the same time and then splitting them again?
@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 Жыл бұрын
Not generally. We make them as strong as possible with what is available. Yes! We will split again as soon as possible for the series.

@@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 what kind of magnet, such a simple idea will be doing that.
@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 Жыл бұрын
@@dannyh982 just two small rare earth magnets from Amazon. They break easily, so we tape ours wit electrical tape. It works very well. No more holes in clothing or lost hive tool.
