I bought a used BMW 128i with 97,000 miles with an extended warranty. Within the first month a rod bearing failed and destroyed the engine, so it needed to be replaced. Two months later the valve body became severely worn causing a shutter at speeds of 45-65mph. Thus, my transmission had to be replaced. My local mechanics could have started charging me seasonal storage fees, as my car spent more time in the shop than it did in my garage. However, all is now at bay and my car drives like the dream it was meant to be from the start. While my case is quite extreme, my advice to anyone buying a used BMW is this: understand the previous owner(s) might have seriously abused the car you’re about the buy.

Very good video! As a fellow F82 owner, I agree with most of your comments, especially the seat logos and the unpredictable torque. Replacing the logos with the newer black ones is well worth the ~ $300 investment, in my opinion. I have just gotten used to the cold start loudness but I agree it’s pretty annoying (especially in my 1-car garage). I took my traction control off twice but I’ve been “scared straight” after a pretty good “snap” under moderate acceleration. Not worth pushing this very powerful car to hard...can be very expensive ;) All in all, I absolutely love my car and I hope that you get as much joy out of yours! Cheers! 🍻

I'm a German BMW owner in Germany and 1) the torque isn't unpredictable in this car, it's the complete opposite. Torque will always kick in since it's a supercharged engine but it has a smooth torque curve compared to some other supercharged cars and it will come always at the same rpm so it IS predictable. Don't buy a supercharged car at all if you don't want this behaviour. 2) shift paddles at the steering wheel are way more expensive to engineer and to fabric than static ones. They are made this way for a reason: it's track optimized, so you can still shift if your steering wheel is in 90°degrees. The only thing you mentioned I find annoying as well is the sound of the window. But you can solve that pretty easy.

so you did a whole video about 5 minor things: the long cold start (is 2 minutes even long? anybody with a sports car never pulls straight out of the driveway, i always let mine drop to 600 rpms before I pull out unless I'm in a rush) the windows squealing which you said is easily fixed with some product (any high end car owner takes care of their vehicle regularly) a bad turn radius, when many cars have much worse and you can easily get used to, and then torque curve, also known as turbo lag, which pushes power to the wheels at different times on any car with a turbo depending on the air flow and the gear you're in, (at least any car under $300k+)? I have a 435i which is the little brother, and even I lose traction on the turbo lag sometimes where my wheels will spin when the gears change, (you can also turn traction control on at all times) and then lastly you can easily fix the bluetooth issue by a. plugging in your phone, or having a mechanic reset the software. like you sat there and said how awesome it was, and even showed a random dude coming up saying how hard it is. Just seems like you're reaching. You even said how nice everything is made and how much you love it. Come on brother. This shit is hard

I love the cold start! It is long because there is so much involve with the engineering in how it warms up all the oil through out the engine. Moreover, you can technically drive during the cold start mode but you'll notice your rev limited "red line is temp" shorter like 4,000 rpm so you dont damage the engine. If you abuse it- it will leak oil cause the pressure is balance and warmed up yet. (the famous oil leak!) So, yes always let the car warm up.

My friend just bought a used one of these. Its stock. He said he was gonna get a downpipe. I had a turbo german car bitd and advised him not to modify it if he wanted to keep that low torque curve. When i upgraded just my intake on my turbo the torque band was ruined then had to get many things to get back to acceptable. German turbo cars are finely tuned and once you mess with them they almost always run worse. Ive found turbo cars are way funner with the big torque starting low on the rpm. Otherwise you have to rev up all high and it just looses grip.

for me as german a big issue is the tank volume. if often have to move from hamburg to berlin which ist 300km, you have to re fuel it when you go the 296km/h with the competition. the tank is so small, that 160km before berlin the reserve lamp starts to blink. due to that re fueling i'm loosing 10minutes. so if you take a normal car, with half the power you will reach berlin without re-filling and then it takes in average the same time. so an M4 helps me not, to save time even it's a super fast car xD only the M2 competition is more ridiculous with it's 52liters tank :D

i am using F10 M5....i never had any issue with Bluetooth connectivity with my iphone ...the only issue that i agree is the paddle shift placement on the steering wheel. Its a pain when i am turning it completely...other then that....long cold start....not an issue even though my car paired with meisterschaft exhaust...i just love to hear the loud rumbling cold start...just to annoy my neighbors :)

Aww I got the F36 GC.. just gonna have it wrapped 3M Satin pearl white, colfibre roof wing mirrors, interior colfibre to go with the red leather.. oh New Mfront and colfibre lip.. its having a reboost on the tuning up to 260 hp think 460 torque. Now then that should save me about 70k? Instead of buying an M4 competition. 😄

number seven can be fixed with better tires preferable ps4s or cup2 and/or boost reduction on first and second gear, can be done by bootmode but with better tires you won't need the boost reduction. I pull off first or second foot to the floor no traction lost. Im guessing you got the super sports on, first thing I changed when I bought mine.

About the turning radius, that's why BMW made it RWD so with a quick steering input and an aggressive stab on the throttle you can easily turn it around lol

@Max_Da_G2 жыл бұрын
These are more a set of pecularities than bad things and are technically explainable as necessary I guess. Long cold start. 2 minutes is too long? Not really. Just watch the water temp gauge on ANY car. It takes about 2-3 min to get up to operating temperature. And modern engines are made of aluminium/silicon/magnesium alloy, which makes them more susceptible to bore scratching. So warming them up is pretty important IMO if you want the car to live longer. You also wouldn't care so much if it was quieter, but it IS loud from factory, and as a result it DOES annoy you more. Squeaking windows. EVERY car brand has that issue. It's not something you can avoid entirely. Live with it and manage it. Maybe even apply something to the wiping surface on the door itself. "Poor" turning radius. You mist have never owned a car with AWD. I realize that your M4 doesn't have it (hence why I love my 2012 Volvo S6 T6 Polestar :D) but again, this car is closer to a true sports car at this point than to a typical street car. More steering lock means more load on suspension and steering components. Also very wide wheels and tyres contribute to that, interestingly enough. Badge wear. Bro, every time you drive the car, you subject the badge to sweat (salts) and abrasion. Of course it wears after a few years. Also temperature changes inside the car don't help the finish. Agree on having to re-connect the BT. But that happens with every BT device. Sometimes it just happens. We just notice it more with cars. I'll leave the image of a 428i instead of M4 on iDrive alone. Why would you even think of turning off the reverse camera? Unpredictable torque delivery. No, it's a typical torque delivery of a turbocharged car with an aggressive tune. It's normal. If you want something that acts all progressive, you'd need something that revs more and has a softer boost ramp up. If you ever drove Japanese import, in most cases you'd know it. And to drive a high-powered car on the streets with traction and stability control turned off, and treating accelerator pedal like a cockroach is asking to get into a collision. Paddle shifters: You should NEVER shift mid-corner. It upsets the cars stability and can cause a spinout. You shift just before the corner, or on exit with the steering wheel centred. Every single shift the power is cut. Bro, that's called "Flat Foot Shifting". That is done to protect the driveline. If you ever watched modern race cars, they all do this. They ALWAYS momentarily cut the power. Completely normal behaviour of a car that approaches track cars in the way it's set up. Enjoy the ownership of a rocketship ;)

My M5 f10 cold start had 2 levels..idles high for about 15 secs then drops a bit for another minute before valves open on exhaust then normal idle. Thing is when the car is sat for a while after use it does the same but the second drop lasts for a good 2 mins or more before valves open. You can drive off but it's a bit jerky as the revs are pushing you along through gear changes until valves open again. This has got progressively longer as the car has got older...not a major issue just gets a bit tiresome sat there when you just want to get moving. Not sure what causes it but guess it's age/wear on some component?

M4CS comes with wider tires. Where as the M4 comes with a really thin tire set up (common complaint from owners) also the M4CS was entirely built around the CUP 2 tires. Power delivery was also refined on the CS due to punchy/explosive torque delivery from the M4/3.
