I started drinking beer at age 16. I am now 85. So many beers so little time. I enjoy lagers and ales alike. I am not a fan of the myriad of what I call "funky beers" or flavored beers. It is good to see so many people getting into the brewing of beer and making their creations available to the public. This primer was well done and I thank you for explaining the basics.

Hi. I am from the Philippines. And we usually drink lagers and pilsners here. A good example would be our brand Red Horse Extra Strong beer.

In German and Polish language everything is a beer (Bier / Piwo), if it is top or bottom fermented is just an additional information we do not have separate words for. The most beers here are nowadays bottom fermented anyway. In Germany only a few old style "ales"are left: e.g. Weizenbeer (Wheat beer), Altbier (Area of Düsseldorf) and Kölsch (from Cologne)

@@MrFredenza You are welcome. In Poland I only know the very special beer style of "Piwo grodziskie", a smoked Wheat beer (100% wheat in the original version) is still top fermented. It is an old historical beer style which came to live again with the craft beer movement.

It's fun how the two families can also blend almost and become so confusing. Something like an India Pale Lager can feel exactly like an ale, whereas a Kölsch can feel exactly like a lager. They don't make it easy for us 🤣

Too bad these days, that you can put oxidized cow piss in a colorful cartoon can and people will think it the greatest thing they ever tasted. Americans are VERY undiscerning drinkers and wouldn't know a fine ale or lager from a bucket of chuck. Most just want it cold, drinkable and cheap.
