I played DIV 1 as a 40yrs old....no fun....I got 20yrs old failed junior B guys stomping around the dressing room lecturing us old guys about 2-way hockey. I now play Div 6....we just are having fun.

I know of a guy who went and collected the puck after scoring a hat trick in a beer league. I thought he was hilarious but was told “no, he’s not funny man, the guys weird”. It was in Hamilton so….you know.

The one thing I noticed about beer league ice hockey and roller hockey. Roller hockey players take everything to heart. If you body them up or anything like that they get mad and try to destroy you every chance they get. Even when they are the ones who started it. Ice players leave everything on the ice.

The puck hog part is so true. And the guys who think they’re in the cup final with white Nike skates on. It goes both ways though. The benders who skate like they’re trying to walk on ice are moving those feet so fast while absolutely going No where at the same time. Learn how to skate first

I played College in Boston, never got a look but I grew up playing with and against guys like JR, Guerin, and many others. But I loved the game as a defenseman, and these beer league nitwits think they are Connor McDavid in game 7 dangling all over the place. When I started standing them up and just take the penalty, I knew it was time for me to quit playing in 2017. Either I was going to get hurt or more likely I was probably going to mess one of these kids up as half of them have their eyes down. The code is dying if not dead as I see it. I live in PHX and there are a LOT of Canadians here, northerners too. some good games...but yeah....I would rather not deal with that anymore either.

I played college hockey and can’t stand playing beer league for all reasons Sean said. Instead I play in a late night skate with about 25 guys in the area where we rent the ice for a season and choose sides and just play. No refs, no BS. Just a good group of guys having fun. It’s great

That’s why i do stick n puck for an hour. Get a good skate, shoot some pucks, usually 2-4 guys who like to do little rush scrimages and passing plays. I’m on the ice for a full hour, no stopping, leave the ice drenched in sweat head to toe, it’s the most fun i know how to have, love it. Beer league and shinny is lame af, pass the puck and you never see it again, half the guys playing for a stanley cup half the guys not trying at all. Sticks up in the air. Which reminds me, just like in golf you don’t walk in somelines line, in hockey, keep your stick on the ice, or low! No reason to be skating around with your stick 6 feet in the air, but these clowns do, classless goofs.

Sean, I played Beer League A at Chelsea Piers in the early 2000s when Tim Robbins was playing there. Out tean was a team of buddies, so we had no issues with puck hogs and even back then the league was rough. A lot of ex-D1 guys and Canadians, so the level was intense and we stood up for each other, nothing crazy though.

Years ago we used to play a team mostly with CT State Prison Guards. Buncha big pissed-off frustrated guys who got spit on and sweared at all week looking to burn it off. Didn't enjoy those games haha.

No rules, but you can't mix and match colours for gear? Some of the guys i know can't afford to be picking up new matching pants or gloves. Jersey is a must but c'mon let the guys play. Other than that love the rest of the video!!

Yeah, this is the most deranged take of them all. The entire rant is about playing team hockey and not taking things so seriously. But then we need to get matching gloves? I play on 3 nights a week on 3 teams - yellow, blue, and orange. My gloves are blue and from high school. I’m not buying two more pairs of gloves. Most guys are playing in gear from the end of season gear exchange. Take your matching outfit requirements back to your high school mean girl club

Guys that think they are still in the game???? They never were in the game....hence why the attitude in those leagues. I played for the Allen Cup in sr hockey. Hard hitting and fights. But not crazy dirty. I played one game in beer league after that and it was a hard no. All I wanted to do was enjoy the game have fun. Not much fun in guys wanting to take your head off because you are a better skater than them.
