We travelled to the colourful Mexican town of Mixquic for the official Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) celebrations on November 2nd 2022. The tradition of attending loved ones graves by laying out marigold flowers, offerings and lighting candles can really be felt here. If you have ever watch the 2017 Disney film Coco, you may recognise the similarities between the cemetery that can be seen in this video and the one depicted in the film. Travelling from Mexico City to Mixquic was definitely worth it. We really felt like we witnessed something truly special on this day.
How to get to Mixquic
1) Metro to Miguel Angel de Quevedo Station - 1 hour (5 pesos)
2) Bus from Miguel Angel de Quevedo Station to Tláhuac - 1h 20 mins (2 pesos)
3) Shuttle from Tláhuac to Mixquic (15 pesos) - 40 mins (15 pesos)
You can return via Uber for 330 pesos
