Appalachian Trail Documentary: 23 Ways to Drink in Life on the Appalachian Trail

Beer in Beautiful Places

Күн бұрын

Please be warned this video contains stories of an accidental cooking burn and a dangerous water situation. If that would be hard for you to see, you may not want to watch this, or want to skip 30:30 - 32:02 (burn) and/or 1:08:44 - 1:13:50 (water).
After deciding to hike over 2,000 miles on the Appalachian Trail, my goal was to drink in life as much as possible. Through telling you the way I accomplished that, I'll also tell stories from my time on trail, and share stories from my fellow hikers. I hope this documentary shows a fun but honest look at what this experience was like, how community and friendship have immeasurable impacts, and the traditions and common experiences that make the Appalachian Trail so unique.
Thanks again to my fellow hikers, trail angels, my parents, my boyfriend, and those who supported me online!

What is Beer in Beautiful Places?
Hi, I’m Maddie! Celebrating an outdoor adventure with a beer has been a long-time tradition for me, and I wanted to create a platform for like-minded folks to come together. In my videos, I cover all types of adventures and review beer! Topics include day hiking, kayaking, travel, thru-hiking, and life on the road. In short, if you would describe yourself as an outdoorist, outdoorsman, outdoorswoman, hiker trash, nomad, or dirtbag, come on along, this is the channel for you! Welcome and cheers!

Holly Molly Ranger this was better than I could have ever expected. I have held off watching until I knew I had the hour and twenty minutes to view it uninterrupted. And the format, the editing, the soundtrack and the choice of background music just came together do beautifully. I’m planing to share it online with others like myself who do want to manage the courage to get on trail and Thru Hike the AT at my own pace & style to experience the hiker community, the wilderness, the emotions and hopefully the accomplishment to join the ranks of those completing a Thru zHoke of the Appalachian Trail. Thank you so much. ❤😊 God Bless you .

Howdy Ranger, this is Sugar Bear. I met you near the Front Royal trailhead as I was entering and you were exiting the Shennies. I’ve been watching your documentary (taking a break at “the trail provides” section to get to bed) so far, this is one of the best AT documentaries I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot). It is a surprising blend of great imagery, humor, honesty, vulnerability, and humility … and more importantly, captures the essence of the trail. Job well done! - Sugar Bear

I saw hikingmovie had replied so I had to chime in.Congrats on your completions! I'm going to multi-task and write you both at once. Great job documenting, both ofyou.I starting planning in July 2022. Messed up my knee enough coming down Katahdin to suspend my hike. Spent a week in the rain in going SOBO. Half way through the 100 Mile Wilderness, exited. How beautiful it was. I was so looking forward to crossing paths with your trail families, the red barn and the likes of Bartman as well. Have my tickets to get back in July to continue my hike. Just helped some Maine hikers on the Florida Trail.

I had literally started watching you on day 4. You popped up on my youtube channel. And followed you daily. I have watched your video a few times now. And watched others as well. But your documentary is very different from almost everyone that i have seen. Yours more on the emotional side of the trail. And the hard ships and other people's stories as well. Very well thought out video. i remember almost all of this when you were hiking. I'm not going to lie, tho that river crossing. i was scared for you. I remember when you posted that. I couldn't believe they let you try that. With your pack on. One of the guys should have stepped up on that one. But i knew you would end up making a beautiful documentary. It was very well thought out and very inspiring even tho i doubt i will ever thru hike personally. Im just an over night camper. I love driveing up to roan mountain and camping the Overmountain Shelter. I hate they took the barn down, tho. 😢 but it definitely is beautiful up there. Hate you couldnt see anything when you walked thru there. 💔. But just wanted to personally congratulate you on wonderfully made documentary and i hope that this video inspires people to get out and hike the A.T. much love ❤️

Excellent documentary, Ranger! It caused me to reflect back on a time during our through hike when, overcome with emotion, we could imagine ourselves on the top of Katahdin. So, even though I didn’t have time to feel any emotion at the summit because we were running short on daylight to get down the mountain, it’s good to remember that I had that moment during the hike. Thanks. Sincerely! Hope & Holler, class of 2023

Aww I’m sure rushing your summit day wasn’t ideal! But I guess it goes back to the concept of things aren’t going to go like you pictured! Glad to hear you got to have that moment during the hike!

This was awesome!! I’m so proud of you for pushing! I grew up in “The Whites” and the trails are beautiful and insane! I lived in Lincoln/North Woodstock until 2013 and can’t count how many times I brought hikers to and from town . My car was just a little Neon but we were able to fit 5 people in the backseat and 2 others in front. 🙂

@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces Dif you happen to visit a hostel in Lincoln? It was called Chet’s Place. It was across the street from a community center/day care. I’ve known Chet and fam for many many years. I actually lived at the hostel in the house for about a year. It was good fun.

This was absolutely wonderful! You should get a prize for your great editing. We also watched the whole documentary in one sitting. My hubby (Trig Treks) did 500 miles last year on the trail and he's heading back mid year to do another 600 miles. We've loved following your journey - thanks so much or sharing the good and the tough days. All the best from Jim (Trig Treks) and Robyn in New Zealand.
