So this song is actually part of a mini story inside this album. Part one is him sitting in his car outside a therapist. That one is called Get Out Of The Car. This one is him in the therapist. The therapist says"I don't know, maybe get a kitten" in the next song, Kirby, so the song is all bout his cat, Kirby. Dude thinks different.

What album is it, one of the 1st ones, where he starts with a gentle, polite metaphor and by the last song when the reference is called back it's gritty and aggressive as fuck?!? *BACK in the crates with me...* The lyric: 'Life's not a bitch, life is a beautiful woman You only call her a bitch 'cause she won't let you get that pussy Maybe she didn't feel y'all shared any similar interests Or maybe you're just an asshole who couldn't sweet talk the princess...' Aesop released the ITS album a few months ago, it’s top draw as well 👍 There is a video of someone breaking down the lyrics to None Shall Pass which gives a great example of his use of metaphor and cultural references to tell a story, not to mention his breadth of vocabulary. However….in his artistic split from Kimya Dawson, she made some interesting remarks on the tools he uses to construct verse…

Aesop will not only rap about unorthodox subjects, he paints pictures with a completely unique color palette. The art he creates is so divergent from the norm that you have to take a second glance, even when his phrasing is clear as day. Never mind when he’s taking his metaphors four layers deep. And since The Impossible Kid, he also released Malibu Ken, Spirit Word Field Guide, Garbology, and ITS. Never mind his older discography

Every song on this album " The Impossible Kid" is really good. This song is about him at his psychiatrist office. It's part of a 3 set of songs. The theme of the album is "In some ways it’s about my endless and often impossible quest to just feel OK-with myself, with the world, with my place, with my life, my relationships, my art, my impact, if any. It’s the impossible quest for happiness and satisfaction. I kind of also think it can refer to generally being stubborn, someone who won’t budge within the creative process." He moved into an isolated barn to make the album. Lupe Fiasco has a 40 min video on the tube about why Aes is the best, he also has a short where he raps "Supercell" acapella.

the beautiful thing about Aesop is that the more you listen to him, the easier it becomes to decipher his cryptic bars. A lot of the time he's not saying anything too complicated, he's just using some unique visual metaphors to paint a picture. Little fuckers fighting, mother hiding in her hulu. I'm climbing up the stucco, let's get to the Seppuku. Utto. The image of an exhausted, distracted mother of two kids fighting in the doctor's office waiting room. The whole scenario is driving him crazy; "driving him up the walls" or up the stucco cement walls of the office. Seppuku is a form of taking one's own life that was considered honorable among the feudal Japanese samurai class. Traditionally, the act consisted of stabbing oneself in the abdomen with a short sword to ensure a slow and agonizing death. A hyperbolic metaphor for how therapy can feel as you "pay up to filet yourself and others in the name of help" Ya'll have only scratched the surface but that's why Aes' is so beloved by his listeners. He has such a unique way with langauge and visual metaphors. He's one of a kind.

The first verse is his thought process while filling out the information. (My first name, My last name, In in case of emergency, employed by, etc), second is him waiting to see the therapist, and last is his struggles with him. People have mentioned it's a 3 part segment which it is.. But one of his top viewed songs is also one of his best off this album called Rings. It's about being an Artist and not sticking with it and the feeling of regrets associated with it. Anyone who has ever had to deal with the bureaucracy of healthcare while struggling with depression or other mental illness(shocker: you aren't really in any condition to do all that shit) knows exactly what this song is all about. So much of Aesops output on this album and the adjacent ones is him mining some really rough years he had where he drifted out of touch with his local scene and his friends there and became really depressed, didn't take good care of himself etc. I think he's doing better these days, at least somewhat better, but there's no doubt that his psychological issues have held his career back - in the late 90s and through most of the 2000s he was someone a lot of people expected to become a superstar.

One thing you'll learn listening to him more is that he references his own shit all the time, so the more you listen the more you will catch.
