Have you done any testing to see if bees prefer white sugar over raw or any other sugars? I'd be interested in seeing you do a video where you have used different sugars in bowls or something to see which one they seem to prefer

I use Bubble wrap on the surface of my open top liquid bee feeders, bees love it

I think you should try sticking the hose almost all the way in and then sealing off the exposed end with your had to form an airtight seal. After that, carefully pull the hose out and down until you get it about as low as the bottom of the barrel/tank. The water in the hose should be well below the level in the barrel/tank so it should start syphoning on it's own. No mouthful of liquid then.

If you put the whole water hose in the drum and then place your hand on it as you pull it down you let off, you will never need to suck on a hose to syphon

Here in the States we use loppers to cut through those wood bits holding all the boxes together. But with the price of wood these days among other things your way may be better if nothing else it can be kindling!
