Did I miss something? Have you had AFB issues?

No AFB. I am applying very I interesting technology because it’s available to apply. The science is exciting, I want to see if this treatment provides a broad spectrum improvement on viral infections

hey Ian, greetings from overseas from Poland, the marked queens are easier to see and you can mark them with the same color according to age, in our case we use a mesh bottom in the hive and under it there is an insert so that after fumigation you can always see how many ticks have fallen, there is also good insulation of the queen bee on 1 frame or 3 frames, plus there are special insulators, do you know these methods?

Those BC bees at the end were laying bricks but I didn't see any reserve carbs anywhere. That is a razors edge. Our weather pattern doesn't look good for next week. Might be a challenging year.

Ian, the word you are looking for is eclose. Larvae doesn't hatch from eggs. An egg ecloses to become a larva.

Why do you give syrup when there is a lot of nectar. Queen also needs space to lay eggs

Bugs airborne yesterday and today . Dandelions still blooming and mountain ash chokecherries orange white and yellow pollen . Lilacs have just started and Carriganna soon !! WEATHER PERMITTING alls good . The sugar investment is going to pay you back . We feed until 2 weeks before canola . Then add honey supers and the bees clean up the honey supers and use the remnant honey as feed if they so choose .

I live in BC/. Whom are you getting your bees from. If you purchased 50 or more nucs will you tell me what you paid? I can not find anyone that has more than 2-5 for sale. Add four hours driving and it is not worth going to get 3 hives. Thanks if you have time.

When you pull these extra frames why don't you add a queen and start a nuc rather then boost. Then you would get your numbers up naturally and not have to buy packages? Just a thought?
@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog

Yes that’s the plan. The BC bees add to the same plan but a different angle. Fresh stock from somewhere completely different, segregated from my operation during 1st year build up so they are fresh and ready to go the following year. If I have something funky run through my bees, the packages should avoid it and provide me backup. (In 2023 I had something funky run through) If I don’t need them, I’ll sell them

@@carriemartindale-wetherup5243 that’s a lot but that’s what it takes to be a “rockstar”. You can work for a boss who sets an example like that. I’m amazed how you keep your hives from swarming. I can’t keep a queen in a box a year, this year I had a swarm build and leave again in a month. I need to learn how to store deep comb for spring for splits and space. He’s smart with all deeps, I wish I could extract deeps

Ian, what percentage of the sugar syrup ends up in the honey harvest?
@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog
@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog 8 ай бұрын
I’d say it would not wet the walls on the extractor lid if I were to try to recapture it. I’m feeding hand to mouth. Sugar is expensive and the bees are hungry. I spend a lot of time fussing about when to feed , how much and when to stop

It’s amazing how when we buy mated queens the variety we can purchase. Vaccinated or bred for hygienic quality’s. Bought some hygienic queens they were right on removing chalk brood quickly. In your lifetime no doubt you will see hive’s that have no varroa issues naturally. Oh love your queens by the way just saying
