Thank you! When I first stated making videos I knew very little in the editing department. It has been a long journey and I still have a ways to go but I am definitely much more pleased with where I am now than when I started. I look at some of my earlier ones and just cringe over how bad my editing skills were back then. :) Nice of you to notice. ...JP

I really enjoy watching these videos. I don't know if I would want to have bees, but I always knew from my dad how to get rid of them. By calling people such as yourself! I once had bumble bees under my porch, under concrete. I had to tell the neighbor about it and to make sure to leave it alone. I never seen so many bumble bees in my lifetime.

Hey, I take a few stings here and there. This was a small, gentle Italian colony, no need for protective gear and definitely not stingless. ...JP

a itty bitty nest of bees, now have a nice home!

Originally yes, it was all foundationless, but it was only in a 5 frame deep nuc box. Then, when I corrected all the crooked comb, I added ritecell foundation to either side. of two "corrected" foundationless frames. I don't know if adding in the foundation and manipulating the nest so much is what made them leave, or if I did in fact toss out the queen. The day I did the work, I put on a half pint of honey. Two days later it was drained, and the bees gone. Not sure if they took it or robbers.

Looks like the duck box was in use by ducks when the bees moved in sadly . Great you where able to wrangle up all the bees and relocate them not only to a better home , but a much better location as well . With you repairing the box JP hopefully next mating season ducks will use the box again .

I actually don't own this camera anymore as I opted for the Hero3 which now has an aspherical lens which removes just about all of the fish eye effect. Check out the video I just uploaded a few days ago titled Albrecht Ice Sculptures with Emil & his Dad. This one was filmed with the Hero3. No head spinning here! :) ...JP

I'm wondering if there was a good flow on? It seems they do more funky comb building when resources are down. Try feeding them while they are building if that was the case. Other than that, you did the best you could. Were you using all foundationless frames in the set up? ...JP

If the flow is not real strong sometimes they will not draw out foundationless all that pretty. That could have been the issue. ...JP

Rex, that one you speak of is likely being monitored by your local wildlife department. Contact the state to inquire about who to contact for the removal. This one was pretty standard but if my memory serves me correctly I believe i've seen them a tad bit smaller. ..JP

You are so good to fix that duck box back up for them. The bees are nice and taking to the new hive as well. Question: what ducks are going into that box? Have to be pretty small ones by the size of the hole. Have a great day

00:01 It's the Legendary (hatless) JP The Beeman, man.... I have an odd question... if one were to (deliberately) put some cut comb into a frame NOT right-side up, what would the bees do with it? Would they avoid it, or would they work to correct the angle of the cells ?

JP, do you ever have much of a problem of twisted crooked comb after a cutout? I did a removal under a deck about 6 weeks ago, basically a swarm with very little comb. I salvaged what I could, but when I checked in on the bees a few weeks ago, the comb was bending all over the place and the new comb was a mess. I cut a bunch out to clean things up, and sadly as a result the bees absconded. I guess I pushed them too far. Any ideas on how to prevent the crooked comb?

JP - Is that a standard type of duck box? There's one in a local city park here in the Dallas area - that is full of honeybees - and looks identical to this on e in your video. Was thinking of leaving a business card for my removal services on the box for whoever may be monitoring it. the box is chained/padlocked to a tree near a body of water.

JIMPONYD I routinely open feed away from my hives, also place honey frames into hives that need it. I often keep honey frames in the freezer for those that need it.

+gopha533 some people hated this video because it was filmed with a GoPro but I rather like how it came out. I rarely use GoPros to film my bee removals anymore as they don't zoom in at all & were designed by surfers for close up shots. My Sony handheld with tripod is my current go to set up. Love Sony!
@gopha533
@gopha533 8 жыл бұрын
+JPthebeeman sony more versatile. But go pro has it's advantages also, in that you can leave the sony set up watching the show and just use the go pro for close ups and picture in picture.
